Not in the know myself but which league do you reckon has the best refs overall and do you think it might be best if our premier league refs were given stricter fitness regimes and and asked to explain to explain any contentious decisions after the games in the studio away from the fans or players?
as the level in recent games has been beyond a joke.

I think our refs need to just show a level of consistency really, game to game and ref to ref.

The MLS seem to be the best.

{Ed001's Note - all leagues suffer with poor officiating, except one. MLS. There each ref has to answer 3 questions, decided upon between all the media present, about the game after it has finished. They are accountable, in essence, for their mistakes. }.

Not sure fitness is a problem but there has been huge inconsistency in the way each ref deals with situations. We have been denied by poor reffing but we have also benefited from decisions as well. It does, I think, balance out over the reason.

Why do totally obvious incidents end up with the wrong outcome? In defence of the refs, they are only human and if we do not decide to use VAR properly and universally, then watchers will continue to have a massive advantage over the actual ref. But we have all seen that VAR doesn’t solve everything either. Maybe a few times for and a few times against actually worked best?

{Ed001's Note - actually a lack of basic fitness has been shown to effect consistency of decision making, as tired people make mistakes.}

Explain decisions o agree with. Fitness I’m not sure how much of an issue it is, hey seem a bit ‘weighty’ at times but quite honestly I’m not sure how it effects their performance. More definitive decisions and advice should be offered for certain rules as they appear to interpreted in different ways. They should also get more respect though.

{Ed001's Note - well there are a number of reasons fitness effects decision making, but a fitter ref is closer to the play and so more likely to have a clear view of an incident.}

Salah mate you reckon Mls Refs would improve our standard.

I feel the biggest problem in the PL is whatever the decision, the PGMOL seems to feel it’s job is to justify and protect its referees decisions rather than develop a culture of constructive criticism and improvement.

Criticism is a critical piece of any success if handled the right way, but they seem to have an us vs them approach which just reinforces the bad precedents and widens grey areas. I find this is particularly prevalent in handball decisions, contact in the box and what tackles should or shouldn’t be worthy of a yellow.

My personal bugbear is that contact is supposed to be refereed based on whether it impedes. yet somehow it’s taken than any contact should be a penalty (yes Mr Kane, talking about you), hence all the diving that goes on.

Likewise handballs seem to be so subjective It’s ridiculous. Surely some sort of consistency on what is considered ball to hand, what constitutes an unnatural arm position, and what sort of time should be enough to move the hand isn’t too much to ask for?

I certainly think their system would work 10 x better over here then what we have John mate. I just wish we could follow suit, things need to change for the better, for once. I had no idea about it until Ed had mentioned it the other week.

I would think that the Bundesliga has best🤔ed01?what about them?

{Ed001's Note - they don't seem too happy with their officials either.}

On handball only a change in rules would settle this if it hits the hand it's handball end of think the refs press conference after the games is a great idea also on fitness instead of like in European games a ref behind the goals what about a ref in each half😎😎.

I’m not sure the premier league refs are that bad, I watch a lot of Super League rugby and the standard of officiating is nowhere near as good as the premier league, although a lot could be learnt from Super League with regards to the video ref.

Didn't know that about Mls refs having to answer questions. would there be any chance doing something similar here? As refs making up rules and changing them so that they're never wrong is getting ridiculous. who's that one on sky sports news. Gallagher? He is a disgrace for the lies he tells weekly.

I watch a bit of MLS and the players aren’t always in the ref’s ear all game. They respect decisions and don’t act like brats. I think that helps the ref be consistent.
