Hi eds, don't know if I'm confusing myself for no reason here but why has lallana been named in the 23 man match day squad for tomorrow's game, only for klopp to then confirm he will play no part in the game at all but it shows how close he is to coming back? That just seems completely bizarre, I can appreciate he may have been taken as one of the senior players because a lot of young ones are traveling but surely he can still travel with the team without being named in the squad if there's absolutely 0% chance of him playing whatsoever?

Thought the same myself.

He's probably been taken along for moral support. And the 1% chance he may be used if absolutely needed (why else put him on the roster? ) .

Why not take him? Surely even if he is not fit to play it is better for him to train with the first team rather than by himself back home.

I know what you're saying Smeg and like I said in my original post, he can still go with them without being part of the match day squad, I don't have a problem with him being there at all, all I'm saying is if there's no chance of him being involved at all, which klopp has said, why name him in the match day squad.

This is nothing new. Managers do this all the time when a player is coming back from injury. It allows him to get one or two more training sessions under his belt as well as serving as moral support. It is not that confusing in the end. Player coming from hamstring injury needs to train consistently before getting any minutes and if that means training with the team in Rome, so be it. Him playing or not, has nothing to do with it cos if he does, we might as well be playing with 10 men cos he is still totally out of shape.
