Ed002,
Does finishing second, third or fourth in premier league make a huge difference financially?

{Ed002's Note - The Premier League prize money is made up of one fixed and two variable amounts, a fixed equal share of the overall pot which is fixed, merit based on position that drops about £2M per placing) and a fee based on matches the club featured in. These are rough figures as they are expected to be split up:

1. Fixed: £84.4; Merit £38.5
2. Fixed: £84.4; Merit £36.5
3. Fixed: £84.4; Merit £34.5
4. Fixed: £84.4; Merit £32.5
5. Fixed: £84.4; Merit £30.5

Match Fees are likely to be in the region of:

Manchester City - £34.5
Manchester United - £38.0
Liverpool - £31.0
Spurs - £31.0
Chelsea - £34.5

So Liverpool coming second would see prize money of something like £151M and with overseas television money (divided equally between all clubs) making an estimated £200M total. This will drop about £2M per place.}

Cheers Ed002, your knowledge about anything football-related is unbelievably extensive.

So I guess there's a difference of about only £4M if we finish 2nd or 4th. That's not too bad, I thought the figure would be much higher.

That being said, finishing higher than 4th would be an improvement on last season (we're also on track to finishing with a higher points total) . Coupled with a semi-final appearance (at least) in the Champions League, it's a good time to be a Red!

{Ed002's Note - You are right, it is going well at the moment.}

Not sure if this is right but I read CL TV money for BPL teams is split.

40% 1st

30% 2nd

20% 3rd

10% 4th

Hence Chelsea are likely to earn at least as much as us in total for the CL this season, could be bs mind you.

{Ed002's Note - It is nonsense. Try the search engine.}

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

Ed002 you are unreal and detrimental to this site. Don't wanna get too ass kissy but your insight is a breath of fresh air and provides a whole new aspect to finances in football, at least for me anyway. Thank you for what you do.

{Ed002's Note - So glad I can be detrimental. Thanks.}

DETRIMENTAL!?!? Ed002 I don’t think he meant bad by it but man that was an interesting compliment. I can’t stop laughing. Hope all is well for you and the Eds. Love this site.

{Ed002's Note - I know, don't worry.}

Ed02 just wanted to know how is match fee derived. how come man utd has highest fee despite the fact that man city has played best football all season. thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - Television appearances. It is not based on the quality of performance but the number of games shown live. It is called a "facilities" fee. Last season LFC were fourth but had the higest facilities fee because they had one more game shown live than the Manchester clubs and Chelsea.}

I assume he meant instrumental Ed002! 😂.

{Ed002's Note - It turned out he meant "ornamental".}

I think temperamental is a more accurate description.

{Ed002's Note - Don't be judgmental.}

I don’t mean to be sentimental but Ed’s contribution to this site is really quite monumental.

Everyone's going mental.

{Ed001's Note - it is a fundamental quality.}
