End of an era at Arsenal and Arsen Wenger is stepping down at the end of the season.

Irrespective of what's happened in the last couple of years, I think it's safe to say the man is a legend with in football.

Ah noway, always had a lot of respect for Wenger over the years he's done Arsenal proud, sure they've fell off a bit but he's been a good manager over the time he's been there. It'll be interesting to see who they appoint to replace him.

Whilst I feel sad for the man, the time is right. He's been such a fantastic manager in the PL era (up there alongside Whiskeynose *spit*! ), especially in his first 9-10 seasons, Arsenal have been on the slide for a while now and it would be awful to tarnish his tenure any further.

Was chatting with an Arsenal mate of mine, and I would look at the following:

Tuchel - young but experienced with a relatively large club

Howe - younger, but PL experience and I like the sort of football Bournemouth are playing - would be good to see him given the chance with a better squad.

Or, my personal favourite (and a dark horse) - Rafa! Don't get me wrong, it pains me every time I see Rafa managing other teams, but I do think he was on the verge of something special with us 10 years ago, only to be crippled by the financial constraints of Waldorf and Statler. I think he could build the next Arsenal legacy over the next 10 or so years, if the owners back him.

What's everyone else's views? And Eds as well if they have time?

{Ed001's Note - Nagelsmann.}

Do you think Nagelsmann would suffer being in the glare with Arsenal as much as he will do? I know he's achieved an amazing amount at Hoffenheim given his age, but I just think the spotlight glare of the PL could be too much for him right now, and he may need to build to that sort of pressure.

Would he risk doing a Vilas-Boas? Although I don't know that much about him, especially his character, hence the questions!

{Ed001's Note - I think he would be fine there as the board would stand behind him, I hope.}

I think a lot of arsenal fans will rue this day, even those against Wenger. I wonder f they’ll give the new appointment a real chance or follow the modern football style of sack sack sack.

I don’t think they can afford to go with an unproven manager. After years of relative lack of success they will do what was tried with Moyes, Rogers, Martinez. You need quality. It doesn’t mean they have had to have won the CL but they need signs of quality. I think they will go for someone like Allegri. The question is can they compete with the likes of Chelsea and PSG?

Typo. I mean to say they will NOT do what was done with Rogers etc.

It will be interesting to see how the Arsenal board act in the coming seasons with regards to standing behind a manager. Wenger did so much for the club that they had to back him until he left imo. Who knows, they might become another Chelsea and have a new manager every year!

I sincerely hope arsenal do not get the Hoffeheim coach as I hold him in very high regard and I feel at Arsenal he would do some wonderful things given time and backing
knowing Arsenal they will go safe and get the Monaco coach.

I know he's young and very inexperienced, but I have a strong gut feeling that Thierry Henry is going to get the job. I've had that feeling for over a year when Wenger leaving arsenal has been uttered.
If he does, only time will tell if he's the right man.

I don't think wenger has ever been in the same class as fergie. I love his style of football but man, fergie won the league untold amount of times, how many times did we get win it? What? Twice.

Never won the european Cup, despite having the best team in Europe. I felt sorry for him when the arsenal fans turned on him but I don't like people equating him to Alex ferguson. There is no equation.

It's about DAMN time, IMO. Wenger should have gone a decade ago as they have been stuck in neutral since then (went a good NINE seasons w/ o winning a thing) and for the past 3 years, they have been in free fall.

Arsenal have a beautiful stadium, fans all over the world, financial stability (more or less) some very good players and a real strong pulling power. They have under achieved for years now and that has to be down to wenger.

As a liverpool fan I would love arsenal to stick with wenger. They have everything (almost) in place to mount a title challenge and definitely a top 4 challenge. 3/ 4 players away from a very tasty little team.

Not me, SS. Wenger should have been gone a decade ago and IMO, he is the ONE who has held them back from winning the PL cos it was always about him to the point that many of their fans call him a dictator or Mugabe. They are a worse team than they were just 2 years ago when we were behind them and now, they can't see our dust. Why? A combination: Klopp is class AND most importantly, Wenger has been regressing for years.
