Eds, does 4th place have to qualify anymore? Sure I read somewhere that was changing? P. s I obviously mean c. l. thanks.

To follow on from that - I feel like I read at start of season that if the same thing happens as last year (if Arsenal win Europa league) it means that whoever finishes 4th will drop down from CL in favour of EL winner, preventing 5 teams from one league in the comp next season.

I’ve been trying to figure out if this is the case for months but can’t seem to get clarification. The new rules certainly didn’t specify!

Anyone have any ideas?

Could make it nervy for whoever finishes 4th if Arsenal make it to the final. although I feel confident Athletico are going to win it anyway.

Whichever club wins the Europa League will automatically be placed in the Group Stage alongside the top four clubs from Spain, Germany, England and Italy. They will be joined by the top two from France, two from Russia, one each from Portugal, Ukraine (Shaktar Donetsk), Belgium and Turkey. In all 25 clubs placed directly.

As per the Champions League regulations from 2018-2021 ‘An association may have a maximum of five teams in the group stage’.
It’s unbelievable how many people ask this same question every day.

Every year the same questions bout what happens if a team wins Europa league, the Ans nothing, the only way a team in 4th miss out is if the winners of the cl finish outside the top 4,
