Ed001, I am at a complete loss as to why Matip keeps getting partnered with VVD. I think it was mentioned that Lovren had a slight injury this past weekend, but prior to that, Matip has had more looks at RCB. Is this something that Klopp is aware of and what do you think the long term plan is?

I am also concerned about our champions league match. How do you set up the defense? Without Gomez at right back I think we will get exposed.

{Ed001's Note - Klopp is just doing what he did with Mignolet and Karius, giving them both a chance to prove themselves, as neither are the ideal choice. While Lovren is, usually, a better suited partner, he is also prone to random errors out of nowhere. You never know if two players will find a balance between them until you try them together to be honest.

There is also the problem of fitness, neither of them can be relied upon to play twice a week without picking up an injury, so Klopp is using rotation to help avoid that as well. It does help none of the players at the back to be rotated though, as they are not able to get used to a partner.}

Cracking reply that Ed01. On that note then would you say VVD is getting a little bit of the short straw as he is playing more or less every week but with a new partner alongside him which would effect him and his and. Plus with his price tag he is the one under the most scrutiny from media and fans alike.

{Ed001's Note - no, he needs to man up and lead and stop bloody strolling around.}

Ed01 I get that mate and totally agree that it doesn't matter what partner he has, it should not effect his individual performance. Just meant he's not getting a chance to build a rapport with the same partner getting continuity beside him. Anyway keep up the great work and enjoy your bank holiday Monday.

{Ed001's Note - sorry get what you mean. I agree on that. It is something that does not help and I am sure in an ideal world Klopp would like to be able to put out a consistent team week in week out. However it is not proving to be possible.}

Spot on, Ed and Jayden. Both Matip and Lovren are not the most ideal even tho, I agree that Lovren is the better defender, more physical, brave and stronger than Matip BUT as you say, he has an error in him at the most in-opportuned time. Matip for me, is not good enough, end of. He is lazy panics, gets bullied and lacks physicality and aerial dominance for such a big lad. Klopp needs to play either next to VVD to find out who is the better fit BUT it still does not help the any of the CB's with building a better partnership.

As for VVD, his lackadaisical approach and stroller attitude were two of my issues with him and it was all on show vs CP and had Benteke scored, it would have been all his fault and no one else's. He needs to step it up, man up and be a leader and stop believing in his own hype and ability, alone. Must do better.

He's playing because lovren is a complete liability, he's not much better if at all but is not prone to baffling decision making and catastrophic mistakes. Lesser of two evils you could say.

Both shouldn’t be starting. Lovren is fine as a back up but Matip should leave IMO.

You think Matip has been a better partner for VVD than Lovren since VVD came in Waro?
I don’t think either are the answer myself after this season ends and I know Lovren has his track record of being a liability but since VVD was signed I would say Lovren is by far a better option right now next to VVD than Matip.

{Ed025's Note - i would agree mikey..

I think klaven was playing well but since the Burnley game hasn't played much. He's a better defender than lovern and matip imo. I would have tried him with vvd at least to see if it would work.

{Ed001's Note - they play the same position. It is an either or with them as neither are comfortable on the right side of a back four.}

No Mikey there both crap, but at least matip isn't a walking accident waiting to happen.

Waro, if you think Matip is not a walking accident then you are wrong. Matip yeas, does a lot of walking on the pitch as like VVD, he is a stroller and lacks physicality, dominance and is as lazy as they come. Lovren has his crazy moments BUT is a better defender, brave, never hides and relishes a challenge. I'd have that CB any day over a lazy stroller like Matip.

Lovren is the better defender with regards to Matip but that doesn’t exactly mean much when there’s always a mistake waiting to happen. Sorry to say it but he reminds me a little of Titus Bramble, can look solid for 89 but them he’ll do something stupid which leads to a goal, which is unfortunately what will be highlighted.

Westwood, Bramble has never looked solid for even 8 mins. I think you have a diff. memory of Bramble than the rest of us.
