I've got to ask the question because I've seen a few people say this. I'm not dismissing the opinion, just looking for clarity or elaboration. Why do some people think Harry Wilson is like Torres? Are people just saying this because Wilson looks like he could be his younger brother? Or do they mean ability or style wise too?

In terms of playing style, they seem to run/ dribble in a slightly similar way, but Wilson is nowhere near as quick as a young Torres. Wilson always cuts in and tries to bend it in the far corner. Torres was lethal because he had the pace to go either way around a defender. Off the ball, Torres regularly wanted the ball in behind. Wilson seems to want It to feet more often than not though. Then there is the obvious difference that Wilson is a left footed 5ft8 winger, whilst Torres was a right footed 6ft1 striker.

In terms of ability, Torres was the best in his position in the world by 24 years old, and not much older than Wilson he was Atletico Madrid's captain. Wilson seems like a talented young man, and still has the time to become a very good player, but I can't see the similarities with Torres myself.

Morning MK. I don't see the link either, I just think people are wishing he will make it in our first team. We are all desperate to find an attacking playing from one of our youth teams.

Wilson is probably our closest at the moment, so we all think if he doesn't make it none of the current crop will. In reality he will have to be nearly as good as Torres or Salah or Mane if he is to get regular first team games.

I would certainly have him on the bench next season instead of players like Sturridge or Origi, he has had a couple of stand out seasons in the u23's and is playing well in the Championship, I'd get him rotating pre season either wing, see how if we still have a certain flow to our game when he comes on then take him from there, don't think he would let us down.

Pre season will be important for him and one or two other youngsters.

Good post MK.

To be fair he doesn’t look good enough for our bench at the minute, needs another loan and more minutes on the pitch at a premier league club, then see where he is at, to me I think he might struggle badly in the prem.

Mikey - he's excelled in the youth leagues. He's excelled in the Championship - his early form is 3 goals and 2 assists in 6 league games (and a game against Chelsea in the cup where he didn't look out of place and won a penalty) despite being in a struggling team. That sort of form across a whole season would basically nail on the leagues player of the year. What more can he do before he deserves a chance at LFC at least off the bench - not in some struggling team where he is out there alone, but with quality players he can learn from and see what he can do?

I've not really seen him play much. Runs with his head and body straight up like el nino I suppose.

I suspect a large part of the similarity stems from Wilson having long hair in a headband!

Agree Adam, I don't see the comparrison whatsoever other than they look similar.

Hjinkle plenty of players have done the same or better in the kids league and the championship to later fail in the prem, it’s a massive step up and although I’m strugling to come up with a proper argument or example right now, he just doesn’t look ready for that step up to me, can’t put my finger on why but he just doesn’t look like a player that can transfer his skills and talent onto the big stage for me. complete waste of time in my eyes being a bench or squad player for us at the minute, he needs games, that’s why I say give him a loan at a prem club, it will be sink or swim but at least he will get games for his development and we can see if he can handle it in the prem or not.
These kids are far too highly hyped for me, he’s a good player for his age group but that doesn’t mean he’s going to end up being be a good player for Liverpool or a prem team or even a player at all in the future, how many Wilson’s have we had over the years that never made it? We should be banned from talking about youth players until they play for the first team. Lol.

Cheers for the replies lads. I think Fowler might have nailed it with the headband!

Mikey - there is a reason why we have so many of these kids and they never make it and it's because they are never tested. They waste their best development years in the youth league where they don't need to step up to beat the competition, or at lower league loans where they might learn some toughness or how to burst past people but have no-one to teach them more subtle arts that make a player into a top team talent and by the time they actually get a chance in the top team they are 24 and it's becoming much much harder to unlearn bad talents. Right now we have players like Wilson playing alongside Dicko and Meyler - how much advice can they have after he puts in a top performance to help him improve further? What credentials do they have as players to help him settle into rotation at Liverpool? If we send him on a PL loan, same problem (assuming that any team in the PL wants to loan a young player untested at that level and give them gametimes over players they actually own) . Even getting 10-15 minutes a week and a few cup games, and then sitting down for lunch the next day and speaking to Salah and Mane about what worked and what didn't and get advice, will do far more to make him into the type of player we can use than an entire season with Chadli at West Brom or Tom Ince at Huddersfield.

Wilson reminds me more of Harry Kewell to be honest.

It’s a fair point hjinkle but Liverpool will be eyeing a title challenge next season, Wilson is never getting in our first 11 and I would say it’s far too risky having him as the back up option, he needs games and he’s not going to get it at Liverpool.

{Ed025's Note - a loan would be good i think mikey..

If we had played Texiera, Moses and Suso (who might have been out on loan) in a few games where we had a massive lead early on under BR, maybe our squad would have had enough in the tank to not lose their mind against Chelsea when the first goal went in and definitely enough not to collapse against Palace. Stars get to rest, we compete on 3 or 4 fronts, everybody wins! The only risk is having him as a backup without committing to using him as a backup. Only Klopp knows whether that's going to be an issue.
