I don't know if this has been asked before, but I have a question.
Why is it that anyone who dives is (quite rightly) ostracised by fans and pundits alike, who accuse him or her of cheating (Ali springs to mind), yet when a player deliberately fouls another player to prevent an attack or attempt on goal it's seen as "taking one for the team" and isn't seen as a bad move by pundits. In fact it's applauded as smart play
How is it that diving is seen as morally disgusting and the other is applauded and clever.

Surely you could work this one out yourself Wires.

I'm not having a go at you but if you can't see the difference between a tactical foul where you risk personal punishment on behalf of the team against purposefully cheating, trying to win penalties, as well as con referees into sending fellow professionals on the opposition team off, or have them yellow carded, important decision cheated from them and possibly receiving fines as well as bad media plus potentially indirectly causing fickle fans to get on the cheated player's back, then you're possibly missing the point of it being a professional sport.

It’s a good point it’s all cheating, but there is just something that’s incredibly embarrassing about a grown man rolling round the floor pretending to be injured, it’s shameful. Big grown lads who are meant to be tough, you don’t see it in the women’s game.

I’m actually quite relieved that we don’t see grown men rolling around in the women’s game. Unless the women are laying underneath them - that would be worth watching.

Mikey, you made a very good post, united played anti football 2nd half, and it was embarrissing to watch them waste time, a few of our players went forward to the ref when smalling went down, awful, nothing wrong with him, seeing them, more so young, taking ages before he took a throw in, all to slow the game down,
and don't get me talking about the ref, the one who gave everton that penalty, so you just knew that he would not be giving us much .

I totally agree wires.

The reason diving is punished worse is its a deliberate attempt to con the referee. When you make a professional foul, you know you've done it, the ref knows, and you get booked.
