Belfast perspective: big win for utd but as a Liverpool fan I'm not as disappointed as I should be. I seen 1 team on the up and 1 covering the cracks. I would take them in the next round of cl all day long if they get there. YNWA.

I was thinking that too. But it does show that, despite everything, utd can beat us. We lost but at least it wasn’t the CL final!

Great post, I agree with this sentiment, United get the bragging rights but we are on the right track, I wouldn’t be afraid to play them again in the champions league.

You don't win matches at OT when half the team don't show up. I thought this was one of the best matches United has played vs a top team this season and looked very comfortable. It kinda looked like our players thought they would just pack the defense from start and was a bit surprised. we should ofc have gotten atleast a penalty and lots of other things could have happened, but you don't get anything easy when playing at OT. And today i think United looked the better team, with the better gameplan. With that said, im so happy we have Klopp and not Jose as a manager. can't play good and win every match, just sad that the stinker came vs United.

It's funny how the team on the up is 5 points behind the so called team covering the cracks. Also what's even more interesting is the man utd is still in the FA cup a trophy we can win unlike Liverpool who are going to finish the season the same way they did klopp's last 2 seasons trophy less while mourinho won 2 trophies in his first season itself. Definition of team on the up seems to be very different in Liverpool from what is generally considered going up.

Common_sense moyes

Would you agree, that the most important thing is where you finish in the league?

Historically, that has been the bread and butter for both our teams.

If United finish 2nd this year, and we finish 4th, the average league positions for the last 5 seasons will be 4.8 for both Liverpool and United.

In that scenario, comparatively speaking, Liverpool are most definitely the team "on the up".

Beyond that, comparing the playing styles of both sides for the majority of the last 5 years, there's only one team worth paying to watch.

And it's not United.

Matt since in last 5 seasons neither team has won the league the whole average position is useless especially when utd have been in transition which looks like finishing and klopp has been with you for what will be 3 seasons now, can't complain about it not being his team anymore.

Trophies are the only way that you can actually compare which team is doing well and the score of last 5 years reads, 1 EL 1 LC and 1 FA cup for utd and 0 for Liverpool.

Breathtaking, emphatic, simply Brilliant are some of the terms I have heard used for your team by pundits but football has always been a result business, and mourinho provides the results klopp doesn't. You can play all the pretty football in the world but if you don't win anything you are no better than Newcastle under Keegan or Tottenham under pochettino and last I checked those aren't the standards people rate teams on.

Football is a game, it’s entertainment, an escape from reality. If you are happy to watch dross every week just to win a pot at the end of the season then good for you. Me personally, I would rather enjoy watching my team every week, if it leads to a trophy then great, if not? Well at least it was fun.

The papering over the cracks comment is plain silly. United have been pants since SAF left and there are plenty of United fans unhappy with how we play. However, we saw what happened at Liverpool, when I was growing up you were the dominant side and who would have thought in 1990 you wouldn’t win the League again? Jose is our third Manager in 4 years and the team is still nowhere near finished. If that means we have to sometimes play tactically then I guess purists like me will have to suck it up.

Last year we finished outside of the top 4, this year we will finish probably 2nd, we’ve more points, scored more, and conceded fewer than last year. That’s progress.

You play lovely football, I’d be delighted if we played that way, but not if it meant we never won anything.

Moyes.

Considering the amount of money Mourinho has had at his disposal, you’re bragging about trophies you’ve dissed liverpool for winning over the years, you lot crack me up, you really do.

You’re no closer to Man City than we are. In fact they are light years ahead of you right now.

11 Mar 2018 08:14:11
Drogie you haven't won anything in the last decade except a LC, I don't think anyone is dissing you guys about winning trophies since you haven't won 1 in a long while.

Smeg we were playing pretty well at the start of the season, don't see mourinho playing klopp or guardiola football but with a decent lb and a rw we will be playing pretty well next season, also as much as your football is enjoyable atleast a part of it comes from your at times hilarious defense, don't think watching my team's defense and keeper making a joke out of themselves from time to time is what I would call enjoyment.

Football is about winning trophies. You are deluded if you think otherwise. Playing great football is lovely to watch but would i swap some of it for a few extra trophies in the cabinet? 100%.

You can't messure success on how many goals you score or your pass rate only on how far you get in a competition and you trophy collection.

11 Mar 2018 08:44:06
Irish to me, that is not the point being made by those who disagree with Common Sense Moyes. What is being said is that we love the way we play and if a trophy comes out of it then great and if not, we keep it moving and keep getting better and smarter at what we do. That is the point being made. Of course, winning is what the goal is BUT there are many ways to get there, not just playing next to dross footie, hoping the other team makes mistakes so you can pounce on them. What if they don't? So that means you can't win? Nonsense. I love the way we play and it will get us trophies, IMO.

Also, I find disingenuous and hypocritical that Utd fans under Mou, brag about winning trophies they, Fergie and Mou HIMSELF, called third rate/ losers trophies when LFC were winning them. Now, they are touting them as achievements and have the the audacity to even call the mighty Charity shield a trophy. Nlow, that is what I find hilarious.

Moyes, It’s irrelevant as to when we last won a trophy.
Your recent competition wins under Mourinho, are the one you lot dissed and labelled “ Micky mouse”.

Drogie never heard anyone say that FA cup or Europa league were Mickey mouse trophies.

So we lost to mu. The fact is that it no longer matters if we finish 2nd or 4th. We are still in the box with regard to Chelsea and can even lose that match if we win all the others that we have to play. Let's not forget that there is still a match to be played between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

I tried to watch the match today but unfortunately there was a lot of interference (not counting that by the mu defenders! ) so I couldn't watch properly. I did however see a comment that the mu players looked very tired. I hope that they carry this tiredness over to the match again Sevilla.

They may have managed to draw in the away tie but with the worst possible score you can have in a draw 0-0. We all know from recent experience that Sevilla can score goals and if they manage even one on Tuesday that puts a lot of pressure on mu.

I still think that we are making good progress and when we rid ourselves of players like Mignolet, Lovren, Henderson, Can, and replace them with players like Keita, Lemar and a couple of others we will be looking down at mu, the 'johnny-come-latelys', and the other two London clubs that are situated in the areas where mu fans come from!

I don't know but how are UTD on the decline? 3 trophies last season and potentially 2 up for the grabs?
How many points did the FA award to us for, "We played brilliant football"?

19.) 11 Mar 2018

Completely wrong Irish Rover. The majority of players never win a trophy in their entire careers, bet they don't consider it a waste though. It's supposed to be fun, you know, a game.

Moyes, I’ve seen the banners around your stadium.

One in particular is the Micky Mouse treble banner, which incorporates at least two of those trophies you mention!

Oh give it a rest Harry, with your Utd love-in dross. Utd won, what Fergie, Mou HIMSELF and their fans, used to call 3 rate, losers' trophies when LFC used to win them in the 90's and now these same hypocrites now, hail them as being "top" trophies. Oh and to crown it all, they are now saying the Charity Shield (a worthless pre-season friendly trophy) is now deemed a trophy for them and they call it part of their pathetic version of "The Treble". Sorry but those two statements cannot be correct at the same time.

Their fans and manager are hypocrites and NEVER have I celebrated a Charity Shield nor a UEFA Super Cup when LFC won them cos they are nothing but exhibition preseason friendlies. The same has to be applied here or you will will be deemed a hypocrite like them. Also, I don't know who is on the decline btw us and them. What I do know is that Mou was not given near 300m to win "3rd rate/ losers' trophies" (his words not mine) . It was to win the PL and CL and he is just as far away from that as we are.

Our hilarious defence? 3 goals in 6 games. That not that funny. I wouldn't swap our enjoyable style for a league cup or even a eufa cup, maybe for a league title.

You haven't finished 2nd yet and have a few tough games left. I don't see utd In decline and I have to agree with the utd boys, recently they have been finishing well out of the top 4 but it looks although they will finish top 4 now, that is called progress. I think both Liverpool and utd have progressed, probably Liverpool more so as we are doing really well in the ucl, somewhere we haven't been for a while but it's all academic as your (by miles) the 2nd team in Manchester, progress all you like, you can't beat them, no one can, well almost no one. ;)
