Great one there Ed thanks mate.

I agree with your review on each of the individuals especially about Matip, my god he's terrible and by far the worst defender in the team, well that's kinda debatable when I think about Clyne but you catch my drift. I'd much prefer Klaven on instead of him.

I'll never forget, I remember thinking when he first joined it looked pretty good but my god how wrong was I.

{Ed001's Note - he scares me defensively. It is like he is sleepwalking through matches at times.}

I waited to post same time as you Ed, just uploaded it now.

I'll give yours a read now, but it already sounds like we were both equally harsh on Matip!

{Ed001's Note - I will have a read of yours in a sec too.}

Seems so clumsy or something, would much rather Lovren or Klavan to partner Van Dijk.

Good assessment Tris! Few minor differences in opinion, and I personally didn't think Can played that well unlike yourself, but at least you can tell we watched the same game. I think i was perhaps a bit harsh after reading yours, but i said it as i saw it! i am gutted Ings and Mane's efforts didn't go in though.

{Ed001's Note - we do differ markedly on Matip, you said he dealt well with what he had to, I felt he was the big weak link that caused every single defensive issue. He was utterly woeful. I would be happy to never see him in a Liverpool shirt ever again.}

I agree with your opinion on Matip in general. Last night was probably one of his better games in a Liverpool shirt i thought and that is worrying considering he was pretty average. I just couldn't be overly harsh seeing as we kept a clean sheet without ever looking vulnerable. I don't recall any moments where i thought Matip made an error, but there were at least 3 occasions where i thought he made a meal out of a defensive action. That's why i said he only just about dealt with everything.

Like you though, i would never pick him again if it were my choice. I'd rather play Virgil, Gomez, Lovren or Klavan. In fact, i think Can is a better centre back than Matip.

{Ed001's Note - you need to watch it again if you didn't think he made any errors. The Aboubakar chances were down to him.}

I may have been getting 7 balled in pool at that point mate 😂.

{Ed001's Note - is that some kind of euphemism?}

Ed01 My brother is traveling abroad at the moment and I provided him with a match report and player rating by WhatsApp after the Porto match. Uncannily, it was almost a total copy of yours. I actually rated Matip when he arrived, probably because he looked like the ball-playing centre back I prefer. Now, he has me on edge every time the ball goes near him. He is like the tall, gangly kid at school who was last to be picked for a footy match and was told to stay up front out of the way. A rare Klopp mistake.

I was in the Main Stand, near the Anny Road end. The Porto fans were indeed fantastic, they never stopped singing - very loudly! - from before the match until well after the final whistle. There were one or two knobs who spoiled the minute silence but the vast majority observed it and remonstrated with the knobs. They also applauded what was a very good rendition of YNWA. Brilliant fans.

{Ed001's Note - I know what you mean about Matip looked good initially now looks awful. As for the Porto fans they were fantastic.}
