Hey eds just a quick qestion towards the end Coutinho was captain a few times when Millie and Hendo were not in the team, was this to make him have good memories of LFC so that he would talk good abt us after he leaves or was he genuinly seen as a captain by Klopp.

{Ed001's Note - Klopp does not see the captaincy as all that important.}

Klopp gives the armband to whomever on the pitch has been at the club the longest. When it was Coutinho, this was the reason. Nothing more.

Captains are not that important. Gerrard just made it seem like they were. Even though he would of done all the incredible things he did even without the arm band. Just unfortunate he had it and pretty much made it impossible to be Liverpool captain.

The capt. is and has always been a non issue to me as a team needs leaders all over the team, not just the capt. SG was capt. in 2005 BUT we don't win the CL w/ o the old heads of Dudek, Hammann, Carra and the Great Fin Hyppia leading the young Gerrard, Risse, Alonso and Barros. Those are the facts. The captainship nonsense is just media crap, nothing more IMO.

I used to play football as a kid and was captain for one team I played for and it kind of is necessary. It's easy to say we don't need a captain when we are winning but it's when things are tough that it becomes important. It isn't a media trick, what on earth do the media gain by a team having a captain? You need someone who can keep the chins up, bollock players who let down the team. The actual arm band doesn't matter but having someone to organise and be the spokes man for the team does matter.

Super, I never said we don't need a capt in any situation as we do need one when times are good to keep the boys on their feet and when they are bad to keep them motivated. The thing is that you have the capt. who can be the leader-in-chief BUT he needs other leaders around him cos he can't do it by himself.
