Very hard for me to call any player "one of the best" without looking at their medal collection, so for me all those players from the 70's and 80's that actually won things for this club, for me rank higher than anyone else.

Couldn't agree more Ed. Fowler is the reason I support LFC. Growing up here in Australia we had access to the Premier League via a Monday night extended highlight show. I remember watch Robbie during these shows and was in awe of the great man. Coutinho isn't on the same planet as God in this discussion.

As to the OP's question, surely Kenny, Souness, Gerard and Rush all make it to the top of the least.

I love Robbie fowler ed01. And I did say he had a shout of being top 5. I am 37 so didn't get to see Kenny in his hey day, or Keegan or souness.

I also think mcmanaman has a good shout too.

It is very hard to pick a top 5 of modern era, while I don't want to leave God out I also didn't want to leave out coutinio. Let's be honest he plays for Barcelona and Brazil and is their star player.

Also, fowler was fantastic for Liverpool but he never took that talent yo the international stage.

It is always hard to pick a top five as there are players you don't want to leave out. You have 10 players vying for 5 spots. I did give Robbie a shout ed01. I loved it when he scored and showed his "support the dockers" t shirt. Absolute legend. He is probably my favourite liverpool player ever, along with Gerrard.

So to be clear the top 20 lists can include any liverpool players, not just modern era.

27 Feb 2018 16:39:54
Got to say Edds right. Fowler is my all time favourite. There is a reason he got the nickname he did.
Coutiniho is good but not world class yet. If i had the time but don't I think I could list 25 players who have played for us that are better.

5.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 16:49:16
I tell you what, I'll list every player i think is ahead of Coutinho until i get there! And I'm only 24 and learnt about these guys through archive footage, but i still know it is an insult to put Coutinho in the top 5.

Dalglish, Liddell, Souness, Rush, Callaghan, Barnes, Hansen, Yeats, Clemence, Alonso, Neal, Nicol, Fowler, Keegan, Houghton, Hughes, Whelan, Gerrard, Lawrenson, Lee, Salah, Suarez, Aldridge, Firmino, Grobelaar, Carragher, Jones, Hamman, Toshack, Sturridge, Torres, Dudek, St John, Agger, Molby, Kuyt, Hyypia, Finnan, Reina, Henderson, Mane, Sterling, Coutinho.

I'm not sure but i think that puts him around 40th?

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't have Sammy Lee in, but I do wonder where the Anfield Iron is? How can you forget Tommy Smith???}

Agreed Irish rover, and Gerrard had eufa cup champions league fa cup and league Cup medals. European super Cup and charity shields medal. It is not only the 70/ 80s Players who had major trophies.

7.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 17:08:51
As usual MK you massively exaggerate to dilute what is originally a good point.

Dudek, Henderson, sterling above couts to name a few? You’re having an absolute laugh mate. Granted there are a lot of players ahead of him in our greatest of all time list but some of your suggestions are nothing short of ridiculous.

8.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 17:10:53
They're not modern era mk. My top 5 was of modern era. I wouldn't have couts in top 5 of all time. But he would be in my top 25 of all time.

Someone said he would make top 100, but I can't think of 99 players better than him.

Negative said couts is not world class, that's rubbish, of course he is, he is one of the best and most expensive players in the world today, hence Barcelona breaking their transfer record to sign him.

9.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 17:40:04
Sterling wouldn’t make my list, and Coutinho is a better footballer than Sterling would ever hope to be, but Fowler eclipses both of them. At his best he was unplayable.

10.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 17:43:02
I started watching football from 2003. So I will have players who I watched in flesh. Gerrard, Suarez, Torres, Alonso and Agger.

11.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 17:47:48
MK, no need to tell us that you are 24. Reading your posts gives us a good idea about your age.

12.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 18:03:46
I had an old video of Fowler’s goals but slightly before my time. Was he the most natural finisher when compared to Owen, Suarez and Torres?

{Ed001's Note - yes, much more natural, one of the most natural finishers in the game ever.}

13.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 18:05:32
John Barnes should be in anybody’s top 5, Coutinho would barely crack my top 25.

14.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 18:17:43
Between this and saying Mkhitaryan should’ve come to Liverpool, you’re really not doing yourself many favors today SS lol. I think Coutinho is special but that by no means makes him one of our greatest.

15.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 18:29:32
Where's Highway in the lists, fav player when I disowned my familys home town club ( Leeds), rebelling against my parents.

FA cup final against NUFC in the 70's was the day.

MK in those days we were so starved of football we would watch the bleeding coaches arrive at Wembley, the coverage started at 10/ 11 and went on all day and everyone watched it.

16.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 18:42:37
Again an over the top reply by MK to take up the half of the page about himself without reading the full posts. I agree guys It’s getting boring now. It’s like a constant push to show how much football you must watch, whether it be archived or current world football.

I agree on the OP’s point about him being easily in the top 100 and I agree with the points after that about there being quite a few in the modern era above him.

I just wish I could have experienced Fowler’s prime live. My late uncle was a Man Utd fan and even he stated, despite never wanting to give Liverpool any credit in typical family banter fashion, that Fowler was the most natural finisher he’d seen.

Forgot about Smith Ed. Too many to remember them all! I just liked Lee's passion Ed. We could do with a player like him at times.

Henderson is our captain and has always been more important to us than Coutinho. He is under appreciated.

Dudek gets ahead of Coutinho on his Istanbul performance alone for me.

Sterling as much as people hate him, was a bigger player for us than Coutinho whilst he was here, and was clearly better. He was our most important player at 20 years old. Coutinho was never our most important player in my opinion.

Once again, everyone saying I'm being ridiculous just because me opinion doesn't match theirs and ninja was simply rude because I'm young compared to him.

Is 123 the year you were born? AC or BC?

18.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 18:56:05
I had Barnes 5th Smeg Head but i swapped him for Callaghan at the last minute because of what Callaghan gave to the club over a much longer period. Barnes was probably the better indiviual, but i made my list based on what they won, how important they were to their team, what they gave to Liverpool, and what they were like as people. Had it not been for that last criteria, i think Suarez and Coutinho might have crept a little higher, and Owen might have made me list. I refuse to put anyone who manipulated and scanned youth players in amongst those names. It pained me to put Suarez in but he was a supreme footballer, unlike Owen who was nothing without pace.

To be honest, Dalglish was the best footballer, won nearly as much as anyone except Neal i think it was, and was the nicest person by a mile. So he was never in doubt as No. 1. I did have Lucas in around the 40 mark but as much as heads a lovely guy who gave everything, i felt like i was lying to myself to put him ahead of Coutinho.

Kevin Keegan! Criminally underrated and ignored by Liverpool supporters! At a time when leaving liverpool was plain stupid the man went on to win two Balloon D or with Hamburg! Keegan was special, truly special player!

23.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 19:18:35
This is a 126 year old club, with a long and illustrious history. Granted Coutinho was talented, but to place him ahead of so many others (who stayed for years and years, won titles and added to the club's history) is quite an insult. He could possibly squeek in into the top 50 but that's about it.

24.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 19:04:54
Smplfc, please can you just leave me alone. I have ignored you for weeks since you called me a teachers pet hoping you'd get bored of attacking me as a person, and still every single day you have a dig. I am absolutely sick of it to be honest. You need to act a little more mature to be honest because the internet is a dangerous place and one day you'll upset the wrong person with your bullying. Someone who doesn't just ignore it like i do. It is not banter anymore. LEAVE ME ALONE, PLEASE.

25.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 19:17:05
Impossible to compare modern day players with those of the past, it REALLY is a different game.
Coutinho was a brilliant player for us and would often shine against the bigger teams.
Barnes would definitely be ahead of him.
Surprised no-one mentioned Beardo. Absolutely brilliant player would come in ahead of Coutinho for me.
McManaman?

Basically we’re blessed and you could spend all day naming players. Coutinho was a great player for LFC but let himself down with the way he left.

26.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 19:20:52
Lads, lay off MK a little, I don’t agree with a lot of what he says but he’s entitled to his opinion and his posts always create a discussion. If we start driving people with different opinions away this site will just become a bunch of boring people agreeing with each other.

27.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 19:23:54
Sorry Supersalah, you said top 20 of all time. I couldn't have whittled it down to 20 without sitting their all night so i just did top 40. I guess i technically agreed with you that he was top 100 because i couldn't think of another 60 players to go above him. I probably missed off 10 or 15 such as Smith and Heighway but no way i could've come up with another 60. My top 5 of the modern era is Alonso, Fowler, Gerrard, Salah and Suarez. I can't get Coutinho into a top 5, but i do agree he is in the top 100 of all time. I never said i didn't.

Coutinho was a great player, world class maybe. But he never consistently showed it at Liverpool and he was never as important to us as others. In 13/ 14 Suarez, Sturridge and Henderson were more important were more important. In 14/ 15 Sterling and Hebderson were. In 15/ 16 Firmino was but Coutinho was probably second. In 16/ 17 Mane and Firmino were. In 17/ 18 Firmino and Salah were even before he left.

I just never saw him as a vital player. I've always felt as though we'd cope easily if he left and that he flattered to deceive; wasting possession with 5-8 shots a game, and then getting the headlines when one went in every 3 weeks. This season was the only one were he started to show consistency in his end product, but he stopped putting in effort and left in disgrace.

How anybody can question me for including Dudek when his name should be on the 2005 trophy, i don't understand to be honest. But i respect their right to disagree and won't try and belittle them for it.

28.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 19:36:53
MK if you are including Dudek for winning the champions league in 2005 shouldn’t you also include Traore, Biscan, Baros, Cisse etc. Just winning something doesn’t make a player great, Anderson has 4 league titles for United, Micah Richards has a league title, doesn’t make them great players!

29.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 19:38:34
Don’t want to get in on the debate or bully anyone but I’m glad it’s not just me who reacts this way to MK posts. Whilst it’s good he interacts on the site he blows with the wind depending on what Ed says.

MK you seem a great guy but some of your posts are down right cringey. For such a young lad you seem to know an awful lot on the last and players. It’s like you have lived every era or watched every match of every player.

To me you like to get a name, see some high lights and report on what you have seen. I for one have to scroll pasts a lot of your nonsense sorry mate. Whilst not everyone has to agree with you, it seems you love to get some sort of adulation by these long posts which half the time are nonsense.

30.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 19:40:09
MK- I can’t believe you have Finnan, Dudek, Hendo, Jones, Lee, Sturridge, Hamman and Kuyt above Coutinho, surely you’re trying to provoke a reaction?

31.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 19:36:48
Agree Baby D, Keegan was so special we had to buy the King to replace him!

32.) 27 Feb 2018
27 Feb 2018 19:47:35

5. Nicol
6. Fowler
7. Hansen
8. Alonso
