question for the eds, with City after winning the League Cup, Jamie Redknapp said that this team as the potential to dominate the league and europe and that other PL teams should be very afraid, so my question is, how far do ye feel Liverpool are away from this City team, it was mentioned on Sly sports that Liverpool could be potential Champions. So goalkeeping issues aside, or assuming we get a top class keeper, how close or far away is this team?
Thanks Eds.

{Ed025's Note - not very far away i would say kev, once naby comes and a top class keeper then i believe liverpool will be serious competition for city, injuries could be a factor of course as i dont think the reds squad has a great deal of depth, but as a team they are not far off mate..

Thanks for the reply Ed25, I tend to agree with your assessment. I do think Naby will be a massive player for us, hopefully we can get that top class keeper in. I think possibly another CB but I feel VVD will improve every cb we have at the club. Our defence already looks to be improving with every game. But i do agree, our squad depth still needs improving, but as far as recruitment has gone under Klopp, we have drastically improved I feel compared to recent years. Hopefully we continue on that trend.

YNWA.

{Ed025's Note - i think you will kev...and its breaking my heart mate.. :)

We are not far away at all from City, as Ed25 has said. We need to get in more players in the mold of our quality front three in other areas of the pitch to help us get to that next level. Also, consistency needs to be improved and we need to SERIOUSLY cut down on points dropped from winning positions as that is what is killing us (linked with consistency issues) .

As per squad depth, I recently saw Pep making a fool of himself, saying his team lacks depth as he only has 16 players to choose from right after they drew with Burnley. Yeah, go figure. The manager of the richest club, is complaining of lack of depth. As for our depth, we need to upgrade that as well and the GK, we'll have to see what happens cos if Allison is a non starter and Navas (I pray, does not come) then Karius is who Klopp will turn to as he signed him and IMO, STILL wants him to be no. 1 BUT Karius will have to keep getting it done till season's end and he's on pace to achieve that.

Pep is overrated and Arsenal are a shadow of themselves. This is city's year in the premier league but I really don't see them getting to the cl final which with the money on show, should be almost expected. I think as soon as a few teams desperate for points go out and play them towards the end of the season we'll see the cracks showing. I think if we'd played karius sooner the gap would be a lot closer. Ifs and buts I suppose.

I think we would be in for a shout in the next few season, just I fear city are just getting better and better. Jesus, sterling, silva (the other one) sane, stones, ederson, mendy and others, are all young and improving, de bruyne has years left and if he keeps getting better, and the defence are pretty set now for a few years too. They will recruit too and of late it's been excellent.

You have a point Firmane but don't forget a team can only play 11 players at any one time. I think what is also apparent, and also important, is that how the team functions as a collective is the key. i think we are building an excellent, cohesive team that works for one another and functions well as a whole. The sum of cities parts are probably better, I mean they are oozing world class players, but as a team I think we are actually pretty close. Our issues this season, though not as prominent, have been related to consistency and motivation against smaller sides - City have been ruthless in that respect whilst we have much room for improvement. If we can improve on that, add a couple of top quality signings in summer, then anything could happen next season. As it stands Champions League qualification is vital - if we miss out we face the prospect of missing out on top targets, that has to be the focus this season.

it will be really interesting to see whether Pep is the silver bullet that brings consistency to City. They usually go up and down year to year like Chelsea do. It's like their players put all the effort in for a season then get bored of the manager and take a season off! I think he will, but equally interested to see how well Pep can maintain the run with these lads.
