Hey Reds, I think if we are going for Navas, as 002 seems to believe (rodeo clowns rarely make mistakes) its likely Klopp hasn't lost faith in Karius, Navas isn't exactly a long term solution, and I feel he is more competition for Karius than a number 1, which is what Allison or any GK with a big pricetag would expect. Only time will tell if Karius can infact carry us or if he will crumble under pressure, but im backing him and Klopp, and if he can't hack it, atleast we have a decent backup, i have watched Keylor somewhat, being a part time madrid supporter and I put him above Migs.

Navas would only come to us is we told him he was number 1.

liljack I'd agree with that theory, Klopp seems to have a very progressive way of doing transfers and building teams. I feel like if Karius continues to perform then an older experienced keeper will come in to replace migs ala Navas. And if Karius doesn't perform to the required standard he will look for a more suitable first choice ala Alisson! Seems smart to me.

Then maybe he doesn't come then.

Spot on, Putney. Navas, a Real Madrid first choice who has won 2 CL's one La Liga and several other pots, is going to come here and "compete" with a young, talented GK with NO trophies nor pedigree yet to his name. If you believe that, I have a swamp full of gators down in Florida I'd like to sell you. Utter horse manure. Navas if he comes, is going to start and Karius won't stay to be second choice after building up his career at Anfield after what he went thru and endured from the haters. NO CHANCE.

Oh and btw to those saying Navas is an upgrade on Karius, I propose you go watch his game vs Betis on Sun where he was responsible for 2 of their 3 goals. And there's a lot more where that came from as well.

I am not one for dissing our players or prospective players.

Haven't seen any of Navas, however the argument that he has won this that and the other makes him good is just not true.

Exhibit A: Claudio Bravo.

Real Madrid want to sll though BRover is a key point. I doubt Navas would chose to leave otherwise.

BRover, what career has Karius built here? And what did he go through that many goal keepers have and still go through weakly. It’s a tough position in professional football where your mistakes cost matches, if he is not strong enough to cope with that then he has picked the wrong profession.
DebGea took much worse abuse for much longer but is incredibly strong and that shows in his current ranking as one of the top GK in the world.
There’s enough excuses being made for Karius, he needs to stop the recurring mistakes and man up or get replaced.

BRover, see also:
Napoli
Las Palmas
Dortmund
Sociedad
PSG (the goal he conceded was bread and butter stuff) .

There’s loads more too. He’s only kept three clean sheets all season and he’s begins a better midfield and defence than ours.

I’ve watched a lot of Madrid and he’s the weak link in their team.

BRover and Putney, on the contrary. Just because you can't see how a player would move doesn't mean it wouldn't happen. Claudio bravo, Romero, that other Barcelona keeper whose name I forget, they all left top teams number 1 spot for a back up Role. Some players understand their level and when the time has come to move on. Real don't want him, and he isn't a top top keeper, I'm not saying we are getting him, but I find it completely viable that he replaces migs and becomes Karius' no2.

Also BRover, not one person on this thread has mentioned Navas being better than Karius?

Neither of them are the answer. Until we address the goalkeeping issue seriously we will continue losing our best players who want to win things but know that, however many goals they score, the keeper will throw more in at the other end.

I am sorry but we are supposed to buy who is better than the current one’s. If we are comparing Navas to Karius and Migs then that says it all lol.

Victor Valdez you mean TIA? And they all flopped mate! Didn’t they?

Valdez was a poor keeper. Couldn’t ever understand why Barcelona stuck with him. Was completely found out when he played in the premier league.
