Just looking at some numbers and Wijnaldum played 21 matches and has 1 goal, Can has played 19 matches and again 1 goal and Hendo has played 16 matches and again 1 goal.
Firstly I think that is a real poor showing from our three most regular midfielders. Taking into account they are certainly not setting the DM world alight so you imagine with all our possession you would think these guys would have more goals than this.
Before everyone blows a fuse and says Mane, Salah and Bobby are banging in the goals I’m saying three midfielders, who are not defensively minded and are not playing very well defensively should, you would imagine, be scoring more than 1 goal each in the league in that amount of games playing for a team with Huge amounts of possession.
This is where I see our main problems at the moment, they don’t defend really well but also don’t attack really well.
Hopefully Keita can add some overdue goals to one of those positions and I think another is needed and if not an attacking mid then a proper defensive mid as the three guys haven’t exactly set the world alight in their defending either.
Changes needed in there and I’m sure Klopp sees it as Keita on the way and he’s not looking bothered about Can moving on.
Here’s hoping with no midfield incomings that Ox can continue to improve as I think already he’s head and shoulders better than the other three.
My opinion guys, love to hear your thoughts!

Wijnaldum is the worst of the bunch in my opinion, he is a magician (Disappearing acts) Should have his own show in Vegas.

Apologies all, I know that was a very long winded slightly repetitive post but I was genuinely amazed at the poor showing on goals scored.

Although I'm not a fan of stats usually, I think it is important for goals to come right through the team so that includes the midfield and defender as well as the attack! We had Coutinho on the way to 15 goals or so probably which was excellent for the team to have. Oxlade is just settling in and he's not going to score 10 goals- not this season anyway! Keita had 8 goals and 8 assists last year which was undoubtedly a big contribution to Leipzig's good season last year. We need a player or two in midfield that can score 10 goals I feel, we had Gerrard in the past, Chelsea had Lampard, Man U had plenty over the years and Man City currently have players like Du Bruyne. All these teams mentioned have had success with a midfielder of this 'ilk' and I think, as you say, we need to address this issue as soon as we possibly can because we can't rely on Salah, Firmino and Mane to bail us out for goals every game!

Yeah but when he came in from Newcastle he was an attacking midfielder, an since with us he been a full back, Def midfielder, centre MD, not his natural positions but still not moaned an got on with it an had more good than bad games, I would like too see him further up the pitch.

The one thing none of them do enough is get into the
Box espically when playing as the 2 In front of the holding
Player you see David Silva get in there De Bruyne same mata the same gini can do it seen it last year v Chelsea and city scored big goals same Newcastle he got in there .

Mcgoveb thanks for the midfield stats. I never got round to looking them up but I knew they were around those figures. The question is now what are the club going to do about it.

Without someone coming in the only answer will be to get one of the front 3 into midfield.

them stats tell us even more about our midfield, not good enough, is all you can say really, I hope next season we have one maybe two new players there, plus the Ox will have really settled in, and we kick on .

It’s not just the goals output, it’s the lack of quality in the final ball and lack of intelligence and nous defensively that is costing us.

It's a perfect example of square pegs in round holes we need a proper holding defensive midfielder with 2 box too box in front or attacking mids who can track back, it's just balance we are looking for but wat we are doing about it I don't know?

If Klopp wants to play a double pivot, then he needs players who think and look to see how they can help rather than just charge blindly forward. At the moment, we have a midfield who seem unwilling (or perhaps unable in the heat of the battle) to think about covering for each other. There has been some improvement eg in covering for the fullbacks. But the big problem in my opinion, is that the midfield haven't worked out how to cover for each other eg if Can goes on one of his charges up field, Wiji should be thinking about whether he needs to settle in behind him. If Can and Wiji are both playing DM then they seem fine with being able to stay back. Its when they are called upon to play flexibly that they have issues. But its even wider spread than that. For example if all the midfield has charged forward then its incumbent on the other players to recognise this and rearrange to cover the hole. Our fullbacks for example seem to be slowly improving in this respect but we need more leaders on the pitch who are willing to call out their team mates on this.

How many goals have kante, pogba, Dembele, diet, wanyama, wilshere, herrera, Fernandinho, bakayoko, drinkwater etc scored this season? Let’s make it a fair comparison.
