Hey Ed's quick question, do you know how long our goalkeeper coach has been at Liverpool? And do you have an opinion on how good he is if u know much about him?

Just seems we have struggled here for a long time, Reina in his last few years was nothing like he once was.
Mignolet who was doing great at Sunderland has gone completely downhill since joining us.
Karius I hear was highly rated in Germany before the move and doesn't look like he's going to work out.
Even ward I hear had a great spell on loan but can't get in ahead of two keepers at Liverpool who are far below the standard required!

Have we had the same coach dating back to the times of Reina?

{Ed002's Note - I have no interest in a witch hunt.}

A witch hunt? I’ve no idea what you mean, literally just asking how long the coach has been there and had u an opinion on him.

From his Wiki page:
“After retiring from playing/ coaching in 2009 with Tranmere Rovers, Achterberg joined Liverpool FC in June 2009 as a goalkeeping coach of the reserve and academy goalkeepers before being promoted to first-team goalkeeping coach in summer 2011”

Mignolet was never “all that” at Sunderland and anyone who watched Karius in Germany knew he had a weakness with crosses and high balls. He hasn’t made these keepers worse but he hasn’t improved them much either.

Am I right in saying that Pepe Reina didn't get on with him.

Mignolet was c**p at Sunderland too. It was Brendan's genius that brought him to LFC and of course the horrendous transfer committee.
Karius though is a curious case. Looks like Archterberg has ripped away what ever qualities he had that made him a good GK in Germany.

I remember being linked Timo Horn and Karius and we ended up buying Karius. I was hoping and praying for Horn.
However let's see what a run of games does from the lad and evaluate the situation in the summer. or at least that seems to likely be the path we are taking.

Have to agree with the assessment of Mignolet never being that good at Sunderland. Remember Suarez scored for us against him from a near impossible angle, think Karius/ Sane earlier, only from a much tighter angle.
I know someone who scouted Mignolet for another club around that time, he watched him about 15 times and said his only decent attribute he noticed in that time was he was good at one on ones.
Otherwise, pretty average.
Not having a go at the lad but I think it's fair to say there are many better Keepers out there.
Ward and Karius need to fight it out for #1 until the summer, we need a Keeper who can make a difference to come in then.
Great result today!
Robertson was breathtaking at times!
