Exciting times ahead, we have some money burning a hole in our pockets and the question on everybody's lips is who is coming in. Lemar is the one that seems to come up and a very talented player indeed, one I would be happy with. Another option, or route so to speak we could take is improving a number of areas of the team with the money from the sale of Coutinho.

First being a replacement for Emre Can. What if we jump in now with a offer for Leon Goretzka to take him in January instead of rolling dice on waiting in the summer where a number of clubs could and would inter the fray, being a free agent. I am aware he is able to talk to clubs now and sign a pre-contract but maybe putting in a bid and showing our intent might persuade him our way and also entice Shalke into letting him go now as they would receive some money instead of him walking away for free. I believe he is able to play in Champions League so again that might be used in persuading him to join in January.

Second being a player who is one that can operate from a deeper midfield role but also play in a number 10 role or on the flanks in a front 3 in Julian Brandt. He is a player Klopp likes, again is able to play in the Champions League, is young and is a cheaper option to Lemar, but importantly is talented.

Thirdly a defender in Stefan De Vrij, who is a leader and captained Feyenoord at a young age and is very solid at the back. He would not command a hefty fee if we moved in for him now or could sign him on a free in the summer. We need stability at the back and sadly Lovren and Matip don't provide that. Those two should be sold and I would keep Klavan at the club who is an adequate backup option.

I know some might argue pace but a number of good defenders do not hold blistering pace, plus he is faster that than Matip and Lovren without the countless blunders. Joe Gomez is only 20 years of age, a player I feel lucky to have at our club, we should let him develop at right back with Alexander Arnold for next 3 years but bed him in at centre back in cup games. His development should be managed correctly along with Alexander Arnold and how Klopp is doing it now gives both of them game time and experience.

The next position is not so clear cut and that is the keeper. There is an argument for Karius and Ward who have both not played enough to fully be judged but there is an argument for a few good and some world class keepers potentially being available in the summer.

I would follow a similar strategy to the one deployed for Naby Keita and put in a bid for Jan Oblak now for the summer. Keepers like him who potentially could be available just don't come around that often, he is easily in the top 5 keepers in the world and just turned 25 years old today. If there was a glimmer of hope offer him the contract he would want, sell him the project we are building, the history, whatever it takes.

That option would see us with a very good keeper, actually world class keeper along with a solid back 4, a very solid midfield in Naby Keita and Leon Goretzka and a very good player in Julian Brandt. The front 3 speaks for itself and would have the license to flourish as they do because scoring is not our issue but with that back 4 and keeper conceding won't be either.

Im sorry, but am I the only one who thinks that if someone was to come they would have by now? They knew Coutinho would go and had half a season to get something done. Gues what a team that will let go of their best players in january without getting a replacement shows no ambition.

Im not sure if we have that much money burning a hole in our pocket with Keita coming in the Summer and VVD purchased this window. That seems close to covering the Coutinho transfer.

I have to say that when Suarez went i was pretty concerned about the team and what was left, with Coutinho not so much. We have a far better squad than then.

One last thing! Please don't be calling Coutinho a legend because quite frankly he isn't and nor have many of the other players that have decided to jump ship over the past years. What have they won at Anfield? Zip, nadda, absolutely nothing! Some great performances and goals does not make you a lengend in my eyes. If that is the case then the owners may need to build a few extra stands so these "legends" can get their name up along with the KInNG. If you want to be a legend at our club you need to be winning The League or The Champions League as well as playing good football and scoring goals.

Suarez, Torres and Coutinho etc, good players no doubt. Club legends never in a million years. Not in my eyes.

I agree with a lot of OP, I would say in the summer we will see both Can and Milner leave, plus we have just lost Coutinho. So for me both Meyer and Goretzka would be ideal on free transfers. I wouldn’t rule out say a Grujic leaving also. I like and would any of Lemar, Ceballos and Brandt could it be possible 4 of the 5 arrive, given two wouldn’t command a fee?

In the centre half area both De Vrij and Gimenez are available for free transfer also and I’d happily take either of them also. Akanji of Basel also looks a good prospect.

Didn't realize the window closed on the 7th Booboy.

@Booboy, the post from In Istanbul answered yours perfectly, its only January 7th and a few days into the transfer window.

@Irish Rover not sure who called Coutinho a legend, yes he was a very good player for us but a legend no.

@Jonesred, I would also be happy with Meyer if Brandt was not available. Now as you pointed out a few could arrive and if it was possible to get Meyer and Brandt along with Goretzka that would be perfect, as all would command achievable transfer fees and some would be free in the summer.

Booboy

You need to slow down and relax.
Not even 10 days into the window. Let the club get on with its business of transfers.

Just chill bro.

Booboy, we are not even in the double digits yet for days in Jan as it is only the 7th. Now if you wanna write off the season if we don't get a replacement for Cou which is possible then, that is your right. We all don't have to go that route.
