Great review ed and I completely agree about ox in the interview. An absolute touch of class to help coutinho in a sticky moment.

moving the ball that quickly just destroyed them, i wish we do this more often, it would help us far more in games where we are up against a team defending with 8 or 10 players.

the players we have upfront are very much capable of doing this. the unpredictability of just moving the ball quickly can take out multiple players at once.

great review ed001.

Great review Ed001 nice one.

I have a quick question about Eddie Howe (only as he was mentioned in the review, hope that's ok) .

Do you think he's suffering from domestic manager syndrome, where he is viewed in a more favourable light simply because he's not foreign?

It seems to be happening more and more where just because a manager is British they are held up as being hard done by when they get sacked or not supported when criticised.

I remember Howe being talked about as Wenger's replacement, Gary Rowett was the next Brian Clough and how Phil Brown, Ian Holloway, Tony Mowbray and David Moyes keep getting work is beyond me.

DO you think there's an issue with fans and the media thinking that managers are better than they are simply because they are British? And do you think owners are sometimes hesitant to get rid of British managers and replace them with overseas managers because they fear the backlash?

Cheers in advance.

{Ed001's Note - very much so. People were even believing he did it on a shoestring because they never bothered to look into what actually happened. Their very own Abramovich bought the club and funded their rise. Howe was just lucky to be there at the right time to benefit.}

Sorry Ed, have to disagree with you on firmino being up there with the best forwards in the league. To be on par with them he needs to add goals to his game, of which if he does he’ll be on the same level if not higher. I’m not saying he’s not a good player but let’s not get carried away with ourselves, as a forward he should be chipping in with more goals and that’s all he lacks. His skill set and his work ethic is great and I’m glad he plays for us.

{Ed001's Note - oh good the usual nonsense about him not scoring. Did you know his goal ratio is higher than Dalglish's? I thought that this season had finally put this stupidity to bed, considering he has scored more than a goal every 2 games, but obviously not. I really give up, I do not know what some people expect or whether you are just a troll. Maybe this is just a wind up, because 13 goals in 25 games is an excellent record.}

Yes Ed! Hendo had a great game. He makes such a difference to the team. Kept us ticking along at a good pace. Hopefully he can play most games over Xmas with the break he has had recently.

{Ed001's Note - fingers crossed.}

Brilliant Ed.

Completely agree on Howe by the way. Said very similar earlier this morning. I don't know how or why the media has elevated him to such a high position of appreciation, but i would not be surprised if i found out he does no defensive work in training.

I think this is the year they begin their fall back down the divisions. The average level in the Premier league has escalated so much and so quickly and in Bournemouth's team yesterday, the only players who were not with them in their first season in the top flight were Defoe, Begovic and Ibe. Defoe and Begovic are finished at the top level though, and Ibe is suffering at the hands of yet another manager who doesn't know how to utilise him. To still have the same defence and midfield that played in League 1 is just awful. The recruitment, and what Howe is getting out of the higher level players, is just not good enough. He looks like he's too loyal, and doesn't know any other way of playing.

Pleased to see you give Chamberlain a special mention. I really hope he uses this as a launch pad though!

{Ed001's Note - I have never understood the hype on Howe mate. I have been saying it for years and never will get it.}

Got to disagree on Howe mate. He's brought them through the leagues and deserves to be at Bournemouth even if they go down. We sit and slag managers like moyes fat sam hogson pardew pulis for all parking the bus. Howe at least wants his team to play football. He has the right mix between holloways blackpool all out attack and the ones I just mentioned.

6 goals in the premier league, all I’m saying is he needs to add more goals to his game I’m not saying his poor at all. Embarrassing post? Not really because I dare to not go with what someone else has said instead of kisses arse and hanging off every word like it’s gospel!

Benny i disagree. He has no balance at all. He's used his financial muscle o try and outspend the others. His record buy (Ake) was so bad yesterday, i actually forgot he was a new signing. He looks Championship standard, despite being one of the most talented youngsters in the country. The longer he has been at Bournemouth, the worse he has got.

Howe seems like he wants to play good football, and i think he must be good at motivating players who feel like underdogs. He gets the lesser players well up for games to the point that they're on par with his better players.

The fact that he can't get anything good out of the better players is a worry though. Playing the underdog card doesn't work on guys who expect to be winning games more frequently than what Howe has them doing. None of his signings in the last 3 years have even been remotely successful. That despite him spending upwards of £100m on players.

He is a bad coach, a terrible manager, non-existant tactically, but he is a decent motivator and talks a good game to the press. Quite literally a poor mans Brendan Rodgers. At least Rodgers was a decent coach who improved some players. I will be amazed if he keeps them up again. Whilst everyone else has improved each year, Stoke and Swansea have gone backwards, and Bournemouth and West Brom have stood still. They are quite comfortably the four worst teams in the league. I can see Newcastle getting sucked in too though if Rafa doesn't get backed in January. Howe has been found out at last and it's about time to be honest.

It's just common sense Pegleg. Firmino is pivotal for Liverpool. He is playing fantastically well and has added goals to his game. He's not a number 9 who plays off the shoulder. He plays a mixture of a 9, a false 9 and a target man who constantly harasses opponents, starts the press. The man is like 4 players in one. An unbelievable selfless player who has now added more goals. Imagine him not being in the team. I'd have Firmino over anyone right now.

14.) 18 Dec 2017
18 Dec 2017 19:22:26
How anyone can be critical on firmino is beyond me. Yes his goal stats may not be as good as a few strikers. But his work rate, movement and unselfish play allows like of salah, coutinho, mane etc to flourish. Watch the whole game not just the goals on match of the day and you will see a very clever hardworking no9.

As for the analysis, it was a great one as usual, Ed. Like you, I don't know why people get on Hendo's back. I don't know for the life of me. The kid was brilliant along with Ox, in midfield and for me both should start vs Arsenal cos Arsenal do not like nbeing harried and pressed like Hendo can and Ox will definitely be up for it. I would switch Can for Wiji as Wiji goes missing in away games.

On one last point, I agree that Charlie Daniels went off due to Salah ripping him a new one at will. I will go as far as to infer that he feigned injury to come off cos it got to a point that he would no longer bother to try to get ahead of Salah anymore as he just gave up.

As for Eddie Howe, he is supremely naive, tactically inept and completely way over his head. Signings like Ake and Begovic would get a manager the sack if it were another team. Ake was particularly BANG awful all game. My word, the kid is just useless and Begovic has regressed and got what he deserved for slating us after we lost to Spurs. Howe is just the typical English manager getting a pass cos he's English cos De Boer got canned after 4 games where as Howe is a worse manager than he is.

{Ed025's Note - thats a bit unfair brover, hes a young man who has done very well considering the funds he has available and the standing of bournemouth, its a bit like telling a homeless person on the street begging to go out and get themselves a job...easier said than done mate..

17.) 18 Dec 2017
18 Dec 2017 19:39:57
Put it this way if firminio left u would certainly realise how good firminio and it would hit us hard, his closing down tackling is amazing he is a box of tricks works so hard and scores an assists goals an he getting better.

{Ed025's Note - yeah hes brilliant, so are the rest of the team...i just cant fathom why you dont win everything each year hailstones?.. :)

I think the main plaudits for Howe are because he's a young manager who came to the PL and didn't do what every other team in recent years promoted to the PL did - played as defensive as humanly possible, by the quickest striker you can and try and scrape out a few wins and lots of draws to survive. Some might say it's because he doesn't know how to do or couldn't find the players to do it, some might say it's because he has balls and belief in how he wants his team playing. I can't judge, but I think that's the reason he gets so many plaudits and so much respect - he's yet to join the bus parking brigade.
