I'm going to get shot down for this one.

Jonny Evans linked with a number of clubs again this week.

Yes he's an ex manc but I reckon he'd do a decent job for us at the back. Our defensive home record has been ok but our away from has been the Achilles heel.

We simply can't go into the the next phase of the season without strengthening at the back and with the shortage of decent available CB's, I think he'd improve us.

It it was a choice of not getting a CB or getting him, then yeah I'm with you, he would be an improvement.

Aside from the fact he’s very average, he’s also a massive United supporter as well as having played for them, I wouldn’t want him anywhere near our starting 11.

Awful shout, if this is the limit of our aspirations then it's no wonder we are battling for 4th - we should be aiming to sign quality that improves the first XI, not an ex-united player who is no better than our current defenders.

No pace, wouldn't suit our style of play.
Our defenders have to be quick.

City have been heavily linked with him Ron, who play a similar way to us.

City haven't got a problem with throwing leads away. They don't need defenders, we do.

Ron, funny that you mention our defenders need to be quick.

Our fullbacks are quick, so are City's wingbacks.

City's CB's are slow but Guardiola has developed a system and has players at his disposal where his CB's are on holiday as they never have anything to do.

Our CB's do not have to be super quick. They just need to use their brains which they have been unable to do.

Saying that, our defence has improved leaking goals left right and centre. You cannot blame Klopp for taking action to not see us concede game in and out. Let's just give Klopp a freaking break.

Top 4 obviously the aim now as well as getting as far as possible in the CL. At least we are not sitting in a situation like with Rodgers coming close to winning the League, failing miserably in the CL and then see the empire crumble into pieces afterwards. We finished 4th last season and this season doing well in the CL too. Baby steps.

At this very point top 4 end of the season will be a blessing in disguise.

Reasonable points but Evans is not the answer. It would be a terrible signing.

Great defender, certainly not top notch but can play at left back, in a back 4 or 3. In my opinion certainly better than Lovren, Matip and Klavan.

Drogie, the fact he’s ex United and an absolute die hard United fan is more than enough, without mentioning the fact he’s very very mediocre at best.

max, why are you comparing us to Man City?

They are competing in 4 trophies and 21 (yes twenty-one) points ahead of us after 18 games.
That's more than 1point a game.
They are better than us in every position. We do not play like Man City otherwise we would not be 21 points behind.

We can't compare how we and city play simply because of the goalkeeper position the distribution of ederson is the best I've seen. Yesterday was like a left footed pirlo/ alonso in goal. The confidence of city players to always have their keeper as an oddball regardless of pressure is simply not there with Liverpool. Compare the amount of times our defenders under pressure will concede a throw in or worse lose the ball directly to city. They keep the ball moving by ball to ederson who'll pick the space and then city can exploit any high press the opposition employs. I don't think the difference that alone would make to us can be underestimated.

Exactly my point Irish. He’s better than what we have and if we fail to improve the defence, I feel we’ll struggle to achieve a top four spot, let alone progress in the CL.
