So what did everyone think of young Solanke's performance last night? Personally, I was happy with what I saw. Some great link up play with Bobby and was unlucky not to be on the scoresheet. Held his won against brutes like Shawcross and Martins Indi.
Glad that Klopp has kept it slow with Solanke and OX to let them adjust to the style of play and keep expectations modest. Credit to him for that.
But the defense? Shocking again. Yes we kept a clean sheet but MIgnolet was awful yet again. Get rid ASAP. LOvren and Matip yet again unconvincing against high balls into the box and we were lucky Allen left his scoring boots at home. Sort it out Klopp ASAP.

What you mean by sort it out ASAP. We will need to scrap through December and buy someone in January. Let’s hope our front three keeps on scoring. Karius will play only in CL matches.

really didn't think it was that bad. individual scary moments for sure, but they recovered and migs also claimed a fair few crosses and corners that he hasn't normally come out for.

The area of the game I feel less confident about is our ability to manage a game. that isn't just the role of the defense as they are just the backline. so many times in 2nd half stoke would break past our midfield time and again. it was more about positioning from what I could see, but equally we are yet to be a solid unit, that leaves me worried!

Harry, changing personnel will not bring back defensive solidity. Yes, we have another month to navigate before getting an opportunity to sign better defenders but Klopp should be telling our CBs to grow a pair and be more brave.
And there were some really bad moments (individual errors of course) that can be cut out by improving concentration and confidence. On another day, the result could have been very different.

IB, you are way OTT on your assessment of the defence. We were at Stoke who hoofed the ball for all 90 mins. What were you expecting? For there to not be hairy moments? I agree that Migs nearly cost us the game and why Klopp persists w/ him, is a Dear Jurgen question. However, the defence was very good yesterday and to a large extent kept Crouch quiet.

The problem yesterday apart from Migs, was again the midfield. There is something inherently wrong there. Wiji and Can played the double pivot in CM and for the life of me, I could not understand what Can was doing. He went walkabout so many times, lost the ball needlessly and left Wiji on his own to shield the back 4. This is why Allen was able to ghost in and almost score cos there was no one tracking the runs from deep. That is the issue now.

I know slating the defence is low hanging fruit BUT IMO, they would not have been to blame here had things gone south. They were good if not great. As for Solanke, I think his perf. was encouraging and Klopp managed the game well by taking out Ox who on a yellow, would have gotten wound up by Martins-Indi and could have gotten sent off. Good win and we move on.

Telling our centre backs to be more brave and grow a pair? Just a hunch, but I suspect it isn't as easy to remedy as that.

{Ed001's Note - especially as that was not the issue.}

On the original comment - liked Solanke. Did very well for his assist to keep the ball and use it well surrounded by players and pressure. Really should have scored his chance though or at least worked the keeper more. Earned more starts for me.

Thought he done well. Should really be burying that opportunity he had thou like people above said, straight at the keeper.

Very promising from Solanke. Clever little touches and was so gutted for him he never scored. Comments areVery harsh on cbks I feel they did well last night and mignolet was in fact the main worry. Easy to just say the should do better! Far better cbks than ours over the years have struggled with high floated crosses into 6ft 7" Crouch! Also credit to Lovren who wasn't going to be in the squad Untill Klavan illness and had to play through pain.

topbusiness atleast check out what your going to say you can't call for players to be played straight away when they are injured, indian buzzer you start with a good question topic ie what you think of solanke then go straight back to your assassination attempts, only ope other team in the league stopped that team scoring at home, now i think we do need changes in back and midfield but if you take away the 9 goals conceded in the spurs and city game we have conceded another 9 in 12 ganes and if you do your maths right that's less than a goal a game (0.75 goals a game) so as bad as our defence is there is some good there.

I thought that Solanke did really well on his debut, he is only 20 yrs old, he fitted in quite well,
he did rush his shot, but once he gets his first goal, he will be much more tuned in,
I can see a big future for him at Liverpool .

Why should Ward play ahead of Karius, TB? He is inexperienced at this level while while Karius is playing CL footie (and should be starting in the PL but that is another story) . Ward has not shown that he can hack it at this level, like it or not. Cos you think a player is better does NOT mean he is. He will have to prove himself here or elsewhere in the PL so we can see for ourselves and judge him.
