Hi Eds, why doesn't Klopp like to use a dedicated defensive midfielder? Not neccesarily a Makelele type but one dedicated to break up attacks and sit in front of the centre backs (Fabinho from Monaco for instance)? From what i've seen neither Henderson or Can really do this. Man U have Matic, Man City have Fernandinho, Spurs have Dier and Wanyama, Chelsea have Kante.
Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - Fabinho is not a dedicated defensive midfielder, so no idea why you mention him. He is a right back who can play in midfield but tends to get distracted and caught upfield in there as he wants to get forward like he does from fullback.

As for why Klopp doesn't like one, I don't know why he chooses not to use one now the high press is gone. I know he didn't use one with that because it is not really worth it, you need the midfield higher up the pitch to put pressure on the ball. Now it is gone we could do with something in there to break up play as we lack anyone in there doing so and the midfielders we have do not gel together well.}

Because a saw Fabinho play as a holding/ defensive midfielder and he wasn't bombing forward and I thought he was terrific in that role but not a Makelele.

{Ed001's Note - he sleep walks through games too much for my liking, but commentators fawn over him even though he is missing.}

Ed01, it seems that Klopp is open to a DM cos you informed last season that we were looking at Obiang for instance. Is the search for a DM still in the works esp. since it is clear for all to see that the whole gegenpressing thing is a thing of the past? Cheers, mate.

{Ed001's Note - what he is looking for is players who are flexible enough to sit deep and break forward when the opportunity arrives. I know we looked at a few, but they were the Kante type of high energy, high mobility midfielders that break up play, rather than the sitting type.}

Ed, good luck finding the Kante/ Naby type-players who are dynamic and can do what those two can do. I don't know of what DM player can do what Klopp is looking for. Pls feel free not to respond BUT can you mention a player or two that we looked at for this role? I will understand if you can't?

{Ed001's Note - off the top of my head I can only remember Obiang. Obviously Keita was another and we did sign him.}
