Mesut Özil has just liked Loris Karius post "Champions League" on social media!
Looks like our Coutinho replacement is coming from North London. £40m +£1 should seal the deal 😂
Just to clarify, I'm joking.

Appreciate the joke element MK, personally what is your opinion on the player (Ozil) I don't rate him personally I think you only get one game in 10 where he shows any class, the rest he is a passenger.
Cheers.

Hi JC23. World class talent. Average application.
He was insane at Real Madrid and for Germany. Unfortunately his attitude at Arsenal has been poor. You get the impression he didn't really want to leave Real Madrid and is fed up of not competing for trophies under Wenger.
On his day, he can win a game single handedly. His vision, first touch, passing range and technical ability is as good as anyone's in world football. He is never going to be the sort to chase every lost cause and make crunching tackles, but he showed against Spurs that he can put in a shift when he feels like it. Which is what makes him so frustrating as a player.
He still has another 10 years in him at the top of the game though. He doesn't really rely on any physical attributes and has never struggled with injury. So he has time still to retire as a modern footballing great. He just needs to pull his finger out!

Fair assessment MK wouldn't suit our style of play RedEka.
Looking forward to Lallanas return this evening!

MK summed him up perfectly. "World class talent, average application" I would be very excited if we signed Ozil because there is a winner in there somewhere and I agree with Redeka that Klopp could get the best out of him. In fact, Klopp is probably the best man to coach Ozil. Would he come to Liverpool? if we pip arsenal to top four again then it is possible. Coutinio isn't gone yet though and he still has years on his contract. Other players could shine in the world cup and Barcelona may look elsewhere. I doubt it but like I say, he is still a Liverpool player. I know people have a bit of a downer on Lanzini but it is almost impossible to replace coutinio. Lanzini would be excellent in our team imo.

I agree with you MK. I first took notice during the 2010 WC, that was when he was still at Bremen. Such a shame that he’s getting all the abuse now, since like you said on his day, he’s a game changer.
{Ed001's Note - the problem is that the media have an agenda and they have decided he is lazy and only mention things that go along with that. When he tracks back 50 yards to stop a quick counter, the commentator always neglects to mention his name. He is far from lazy, he does not have a problem with his application, he has a problem with the way he is viewed in the media and the way he moves. Ozil is one of the most underrated players in the game.}

There is definitely a blinkered view from the media Ed001. I do think his application is average though. Defensively, he does what you expect of an attacking midfielder. I wouldn't call him lazy as such and his work rate is only scrutinised because of his overall application.
Application for me entails a few things; effort, attitude, consistency, body language, bravery etc.
The reason i say his application is average is because he puts in the expected amount of effort (no more, no less), his attitude seems poor, he is a bit inconsistent, his body language is awful which will undoubtedly affect the way his team mates view him, and he seems to go missing more often than not in the big games nowadays.
If I had Ozil standing still looking stroppy, or Sanchez buzzing about demanding the ball, i know who I'd pass it too.
His defensive work rate is very harshly scrutinised, but it is because of his overall application. Even if he just smiled once in a while or visibly showed for the ball a bit more often, that would help massively with how he is perceived.
With the ability he has, he should be winning games for Arsenal regularly. Like you say though, he does actually work for the team (people underestimate how much movement is required to constantly be in space for a pass, for a start) .
I'm not sure I'd say he doesn't suit Liverpool's style of play though. He's very similar to Lemar in my opinion. Looks for a pass first and a shot second, great passing, good vision, good crossing, excellent skill and technique, Neither player is particularly fast etc. I think Ozil feeding Salah, Firmino and Mane would be dynamite if Ozil found some consistency from somewhere. There is no interest though so that is wholly hypothetical.
{Ed001's Note - like I said, the way he moves is a problem as people misconstrue his movement as being poor body language etc. I fully agree he is not very brave, but he puts in a lot more effort than he is ever given credit for. Everyone just jumps on him because he looks like he is miserable but he is not. Ozil plays for fun and loves to play, he just doesn't have a face that looks happy.}

Sounds a bit like VVD to me, the way he moves around people construe as he’s just strolling through games, once that gets into people’s consciousness they are unable to see beyond it.
{Ed001's Note - whereas I think VVD does stroll through games and that has always been his way. Look at our second goal at the weekend, he had just wandered off, completely out of position.}

Well said Ed01. I posted earlier how i would be pleased if we signed Ozil, i think klopp could get the best out of him.

Whilst I agree with you that he was out of position if you watch the goal you see that just before he makes a tackle on Firmino, Firmino then drops off so VVD tries to stay with him, this creates the space for Salah to run into but it’s Hoedt who lazily fails to track Salah.
{Ed001's Note - Hoedt is slow, but that is just because he lacks pace, the mistake was purely VVD's for being out of position. A good defender makes the challenge then drops back, a crap defender like VVD makes the challenge then chases after the ball like a 5 year old child. Glen Johnson does exactly the same thing, lazy mental attitude with no intent to do what is best, just getting fixated on one thing.}

Haha what you guys are describing is Resting Bumface syndrome (y'all already know what bum is a replacement for), Kawhi Leonard of San Antonio Spurs also has this face, his face literally says ehh I'll do it tomorrow and seeing Kawhi smile is like ED1 saying something nice about Mignolet.

As much as vvd went walkabouts, what a ridiculously good pass by coutinho. Romeu was baffled by it.

21 Nov 2017 18:12:00
Well I think VVD is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. If he stays deep Firmino has acres of space 20 yards from goal. I still don’t think it changes the fact that Salah has run off both Bertrand and Hoedt. The fact that Coutinho has so much time to pick that pass is also poor.
{Ed001's Note - how can you say that when they have 2 deep lying midfielders to deal with exactly that situation? VVD was solely at fault, it was a terrible decision by a poor defender.}
14.) 21 Nov 2017

Sounds a bit like balotelli.
15.) 21 Nov 2017
21 Nov 2017 18:39:24
It think we will have to agree to disagree on that one.
{Ed001's Note - we can agree to disagree but you will still be wrong. If you want to ask their manager, he will tell you that VVD should have stayed deep in the system he plays and allowed the midfielders to deal with it. There should never have been a gap like that in the middle because the centre backs are instructed not to be drawn out and to pass players dropping off onto the two holding midfielders. I get that you want to make excuses for VVD for some unknown reason, but he was 100% wrong to do what he did in the system they play.}
16.) 21 Nov 2017
21 Nov 2017 18:54:51
I don’t have an unknown reason to make excuses for VVD, I’d like to see him in a Liverpool shirt but it doesn’t really matter to me either way, it’s just that we have different opinions, that’s part of what makes football great, everyone has a different opinion. I respect your opinion, I’d like to think you respect mine.
{Ed0333's Note - Don’t hold your breath Smeg mate.

It’s not like he came out to win the ball even. he was in no man’s land, crouched down doing some strange war dance. I agree with Ed001, you can bet your bottom dollar that his job was to stay as close to his defensive partner as possible and behind the 2 defensive midfield players. He showed a total lack of discipline by stepping out trying to win the ball in the midfield position. that’s not the type of defender we need in my opinion (we have a couple already), we need a leader to dominate our defence, who’s there to defend first and foremost. a no nonsense centre half, not someone who goes wandering and switches off mentally.

Part of the issue with Ozil being regarded as lazy is that fans don't see the number of times he presents himself as an option for a pass only for it to be ignored. He gets into some great positions but for some reason, the midfield don't see him. Maybe he needs to be like Sanchez and get stuck into them for not doing so.
