Ed002, i don't really know where to ask because this is more of a footballing politics question. So i understand if you cannot or don't want to answer.

Basically, could the vote in Catalonia affect La Liga and the Spanish national team in any way? Ie, will Catalonia now seek to form their own league and national team? And if they did form their own national team, would Catalonians who are capped for Spain be allowed to transfer allegiances by Fifa?

This whole thing looks very messy for Spanish football. There are quite a few teams in Catalonia and i can see the cross border games being pretty nasty clashes between fans, in the short term at least. Turbulent times ahead.

{Ed002's Note - Catalonia already has a cup and localised leagues and they have a national team - and in the big scheme of things the vote is of no significance at this time. It certainly makes no difference to Spanish football.

Catalonia cannot simply declare itself independent any more so than Cornwall, Alaska or Pimlico could. To achieve full independence Catelonia would have to make provision to pay back the €50B some odd amount owed to Madrid; it has no infrastructure to collect taxes so it won't have an income or social security; it would lose financial support from Spain and would no longer be part of the EU - so it would struggle to survive.

I don't see the "cross-border" issues with fans being any more of an issue than it is now.

Pimlico did secede. Stanley Holloway became its Prime Minister.
