Why is it whenever we win easily everyone talks about how poor the opposition is? Because when we are at it we stifle them so much they make error after error. Great performance tonight well done lads!

Ings IMO, it is cos some of our fans wallow in so much self pity that they simply cannot bring themselves to saying that we did well. They'd rather make excuses for the opposition than give our boys whatever amount of credit they deserve just to satisfy such a defeatist attitude. Just my take.

You can only beat what's in front of you so for that alone we can only praise the lads.

They just weren't a very good team. I would doubt there is a poorer team in the competition. Let's not fool ourselves but what was impressive was our ability to put the chances away and not even give them a sniff. Let's still enjoy the win and looking at the table- the goal difference as well.

I think it’s like a defence mechanism. If you constantly bitch and moan about how bad we are then when we lose it gives you a sense of satisfaction that you were right rather than having that gut wrenching feeling I get when we lose. When we do well it’s because the other team are poor just so they can justify their comments keeping their guard up in preparation for the next poor result. It’s quite sad really.

Aoe that’s exactly what I mean. When we play well we make the opposition look bad because we don’t let them breathe. A 7-0 score line away in the Champions League vertually never happens. It’s our biggest away win in Europe ever! That alone should tell you what a great performance that was.

I think any other team in the competition beats them comfortably tonight. I'm not making light of a thoroughly professional performance but I am looking at it objectively. Klopp picked a strong team, he made some nice substitutions thinking ahead and we didn't let our heads drop. On the other hand, we'll likely never face a team who will capitulate as badly as this one for the next decade or so.

{Ed001's Note - it was not as simple as that, if we had not scored early then it would have been different. That killed their gameplan and forced them to come out and play.}

That's a fair point ed and I agree that maribor worked hard to qualify for the group stages so kudos to them and make no mistake that I'm delighted about the result. But really, I'm seeing everyone lose the run of themselves over a freak scoreline. I don't even think we got out of first gear. I think they just fell apart early on when we started well and let us play the ball around the park like a training match. Maybe I'm wrong but only can looked interested in busting a nut to cover when they dared to go into our half. For me it was the perfect match for a tough one against Spurs. Hopefully klopp makes the lads feel ten feet tall and they go out and put in a really strong performance and we start catching up.

you're exactly right Ed01, spot on dude. It's that electric start we do under Klopp, I never realised what a devastating idea it is. it kills the opposition's game plan, bosh, now what? and like ed01 says, then they need to play, no time to dilly in the ucl

Coz we won 7 0 some people are assuming Maribor are rubbish. you don't get this far in the ucl by being rubbish, you don't get anywhere near it if you're rubbish. We done arsenal 4 0 and they are in the top echelon of pro football, could have EASILY been 7 0 too.
