{Ed002's Note - I will tell you what, given that there is little transfer news right now, we can have a thread a day where we can gradually build the 25 man squad and a couple of coaches that we can get folks agreeing would be the best. We can use the Banter page for this and it will be one thread per day - I will dictate the formation of GK, RB, CB, CB, LB, DM, DM, RW, CM/ AM, LW, CF and Coach. The squad will be buit around 3 GK, 2 RB, 4 CB, 2 LB, 3 DM, 2 RW, 3 CM, 1 AM, 2 LW, 3 CF and 2 Coaches. I will start the first thread today - allowing people to sensibly discuss and agree three goalkeepers. Posts which are trying to mess up the thread will be deleted, as will anything mentioning any of the Liverpool goalkeepers.

World Squad to face Bellerophon, Nanook, Osiris, Gliese-581, Egliuq, Rugletune and Reefer in the inaugural Intergalactic Cup. Today, three goalkeepers are to be decided upon. I will offer up a couple of youngsters for the third pick, Alex Meret and Gianluigi Donnarumma. Others will want to offer their own options.

1.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:09:51
De Gea > Neur > buffon.

2.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:10:18
Great idea Ed. Thanks again.

Just to explain my picks i think Oblak is the best all round keeper, Neuer is the best sweeper keeper, and Buffon is the best organisationally and in terms of leadership.

Cheers boss. Who are your 3 picks out of interest?

{Ed002's Note - I gave a couple of youngsters and perhaps later we will have a short list to discuss.

3.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:10:23
Oblak, Neuer, David De Gea. Pretty easy to pick out the outstanding 3 GKs in the world.

4.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:10:38
Ok Karius Migs and Ward no not really my 3 are, Courtois Andrada and Donarumma.

5.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:10:44
Benny, i really rate De Gea now. He is top 10 in the world for me, and he was my pick in the "if you could have one player from any other Premier League team" debate, but am i reading your post right that you think he is best?

Not saying you're wrong, just interested to know your reasoning. I still think he flaps at high balls too much to be in the top 3. I was debating if Buffon still belonged in the top 3, but the two i had next in lime to replace him were Trapp and Handanovic. I think De Gea would be my 6th choice after that though. Great keeper, but I'm just not sure i rate him as the best, yet. You're a very critical thinker though so I'd love to hear your elaboration on his inclusion.

6.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:11:04
Sadly De Gea is a world class keeper. United do quite well when it comes to keepers eh. Neur is fantastic. I'll give you an underrated keeper. Not world class but very good and is from the premiership. Fabianski of The Swans and Poland. I really like him, he would be an upgrade on migs.

Who would be in the world class defence? Klavan?!

Mendy Sergio ramos.

7.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:11:05
I don't think buffon would make the top three now. Goalie has to be neuter for me. De Gea as back up.

8.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:11:21
Mk. De Gea is simply the best goalie in the world. His saves are sensational, he literally wins points for his team. Not to mention, when was his last error leading to a goal?
His aerial ability in the beginning was questionable, however now it is no problem for him.

9.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:11:36
I would choose Simon Mignolet, Charles Itandje and Brad Jones.

Reserves I suppose would be Neur, Oblak and De Gea.

10.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:11:44
I still rate him Superred. He commands his area, organises and drills his defence, and reads danger so well. If his agility wasn't going downhill he'd still be my No.1 in the world.

He is so good though that he rarely has to dive. Reminds me of David Seaman in that respect, but better. Truly the greatest goal keeper of the last 20 years for me. I don't think enough people appreciate just how good he has been and how impressive his longevity is. He could play another 5 years yet, if he fancies it like Shilton did. Because is abilities make his lack of agility almost unimportant 90% of the time. I'd fly out to pick him up if he wanted to sign for Liverpool!

11.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:11:46
De Gea, Neuer and Oblak.

12.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:11:52
This is excellent, I fully claim this as mine and ED2's brainchild (assuming ED2 allows it) and I will be a very happy brain father once our squad comes together. The keepers I would choose are De Gea, Courtois and Migs. These 3 prem keepers can go and save the globe and migs will be too busy being a superhero to play for Liverpool so we can have a half decent keeps.

13.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:11:59
Whilst claiming this as a brainchild I may have fallen afoul of ED's no liverpool gk talk. I'm sorry and my keeps are De Gea, Courtois and Cech.

14.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:12:59
This intergalactic team seems like fun.

For my GK's i pick - De Gea, Meret and Lafont.

15.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:17:28
My choice:
Neuer
Ederson
De Gea.

16.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:17:29
Neuer, De gea and buffon.

17.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:24:16
De Gea, Meret and Donnarumma.

18.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:24:30
Ed002 i really like your idea of the Intergalatic Earth Team.

My 3 keepers vote is

Oblak, Buffon and Neuer.

19.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:28:59
He was certainly the best keeper in the world for a long long time. Casilias was decent too, is he still any good? Don't see much Spanish footy. We were linked with him in summer eh, just remembered. I don't watch much foreign football and can only come up with 2. Neuer and De Gea, in that case I'll take your advice MK and add Buffon.

I'm not talking about world class but what do you think of fabianski MK? EDS? I don't watch the swans as much as I could but seen the odd game and always motd or Poland games and he always seems pretty accomplished, makes nice saves, big lad. Maybe I'm just catching him on good days, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts guys.

{Ed001's Note - Casillas is and was awful, one of those players that just never got tested so looked good. Once tested he was dreadful and cost Spain a few times, he is now costing goals a lot in Portugal last I heard. Certainly he was this week anyway.

Flappyhandski? He is good at shot stopping but a proper flapper when it comes to dealing with crosses.}

20.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:30:13
Oblak, de gea and neuer.

21.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:42:36
Neur, De Gea and Buffon.

22.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:47:50
Between De Gea, Donnarumma and Buffon for me.

23.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:53:26
De Gea, Oblak and Handanovic for me.

24.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:57:10
Nuer, Buffon, and strictly Fantasy, LeBron James. He is tall, super athletic, and imposing. Great hands and just a beast. A few weeks of training. It would be interesting to see.

25.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 18:01:55
Neuer, Donnarumma and Ahkmarl Gregggmarhhhh formerly of Osiris.

26.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:49:30
Agree with Indian Buzzer, it's De Gea, Neuer and Oblak for me.

27.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 17:59:45
Buffon, Neuer and Mignolet. joke - Lloris.

28.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 18:15:52
Surprised no-one mentioned Hugo Lloris, I think he's a good keeper.

29.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 18:16:20
1) The hulk - nothing can get past him
2) The flash - says it all really
3) Captain America - provided he's allowed his shield

Honourable mention
Antman - you never know which corner to aim for.

30.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 18:21:36
Oblak; De Gea; Donnarumma.

31.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 18:24:51
Thats easy:

Oblak
De gea
Neuer

Had a few more on mind like Cech and Lloris, but I will go with the above mentioned 3.

32.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 18:41:19
Oblak, De Gea and Neuer.

33.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 18:44:22
Oblak, Neuer, De Gea.

34.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 18:58:05
My three GK's

De Gea, Courtois, Cech.

35.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 19:24:07
Since this is a one-off match, there's really no point in having players who have yet to reach their potential like Meret or Lafont. The three goalkeepers I'm going with will be De Gea, Neuer and Buffon. All top keepers, leaders and regularly win their team matches.

36.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 19:30:11
Neuer, de Gea, Handanovic.

37.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 19:32:20
Should have added this to my post.

Reason why I picked De Gea, Courtois and Cech is because these are three keepers proving to be World Class in the EPL which is still the toughest League in the world.

Lloris is another good shout but have to go with the above mentioned three.

38.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 20:23:14
Neuer, Buffon, Donnaruma.

The first two I consider to be the best and most influential goalkeepers in world football, while Dollaruma seems the best of the youngster bunch. I love tall, physical goalkeepers with long reach, though one of my favourites Courtois seems to have regressed a little bit.

Honourable mention goes to ol' boy Dudek for THAT dance.

39.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 20:31:42
Superb idea Ed002! I’d go for Courtois, De Gea and Oblak.

40.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 20:41:14
Neuer, Oblak and Handanovic.

41.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 20:49:31
Why are we not discussing which are the suited GK's?

Ed002: "allowing people to sensibly discuss and agree three goalkeepers"

No point in us deciding individually who we want in the team if we cannot come to an agreement on why the said players should be there.

Give your reasons why you pick the players. There can only be three keepers. Collectively we need to decide who makes the squad.

42.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 20:52:16
It’s Buffon Navas and De Gea for me. Funnily enough everyone’s choice so far are white and decent looking - good for marketing. I certainly think that Navas would be rated much higher if he has the appearance of De Gea for example.

I don’t personally rate Neuer and Oblak is just a hype. Donnarumma is also not that great yet - just huge potential.

43.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 20:58:35
Fabianski is average and Casillas as still poor and still conceding silly goals till this day. See his last CL game vs Besiktas.

44.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 20:56:15
Lol ed02 flappyhandski! Nice one pal. Like I said I haven't watched him play much. I guess as a keeper for a relegation candidate he is going to have plenty to do and therefore look better than he is. Especially if his best attribute is shot stopping.

Reading the posts about goal keepers to play for Earth United in the intergalactic tournament as much as I hate to admit it the goal keeper who is mentioned by most people is De Gea. There are three or four others and people's decisions vary but De Gea is in nearly everyone's choice. It looks like he is the first choice keeper?

{Ed001's Note - Ed02?!? It was his nickname at Arsenal mate, I can't take the credit for coming up with it.}

45.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 21:06:21
Neuer, Lloris, De Gea.

46.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 21:09:37
Everyone going for fantasy players with no chance I would go buckland Forster and ward just keeping it real with targets that would be possible.

47.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 21:13:03
Oh, I didn't know that ed01. It's an unfortunate name for goalkeeper eh. Some people say lfc need z new keeper but I'm struggling to think of many realistic targets. Pointless because I think karius and ward Ard the future of the club.

Sorry, I know this thread is not meant to be about liverpool gks

Ed02 didn't casilias keep pep reina out of the Spain team for years? Reina, we know, is decent.

{Ed001's Note - he did but that was more about him being at Real Madrid. In those days they did not even want to pick players based outside of Spain for the squad, let alone put them in the team. It was more about having a core that worked together from Barca and Madrid, than picking the best players for each position.}

48.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 21:17:58
How many people on here see Neuer playing game in and out?

I do not watch the Bundesliga so cannot really make a call on Neuer. I have to go with Gk's I see on a regular basis. I do not watch the Serie A either as it puts me to sleep. Freaking boring League.

I have seen Cech, De Gea and Courtois time and time again and these are TOP QUALITY Gk's without a doubt WORLD CLASS.

49.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 21:42:17
Cheers for the reply ed01. I used to think, watching reina, how is he not the Spain no1? He was fantastic for liverpool. Mostly. I can totally buy that Spain wanted players who played together at real and Barcelona and Spanish league in general.

Cheers for your input bingo. I was clutching at straws with flappyhandski. Thought I had identified an underrated keeper but admittedly haven't watched his that much. I saw him make some lush saves for swans and Poland but all keepers have good days I guess.

50.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 21:49:16
Reina would not survive with our current defence. De Gea on the other hand.

51.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 18:13:07
De gea, earns points like schmeichael did and I personally think there's nobody close to him at the moment. I struggle to find a weakness- donnarumma, his age and his appearances are phenomenal. Buffon- even at his age, he's still outstanding. Brilliant idea ed2.

52.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 21:40:59
Ed002, maybe you should have suggested picking the squad based on players who you see on a regular basis otherwise you will have Harry picking Kovacic who ain't even making the Madrid starting eleven.

{Ed002's Note - Thisa is an all encompassing opportunity for you to make acase for your man - not mine - but you.}

53.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 22:18:47
Reina would organise our defence I reckon. We have all seen lovren play very well at cb, we know he can do it. Matip not seen him play much when he was in Europe. Some games he is good others he is awful. It is leadership we are lacking, more so than quality, although an up grade is still needed, ucl level.

I think migs probably carries more respect than the other two/ three keepers with the players at lfc. (Sad state of affairs) the others are young lads with much less experience in international football.

54.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 22:35:30
After watching last nights game I'm going to throw Rebrov in with Courtois and De Gea.

55.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 23:09:21
Genuinly not just saying this because he's at United, but I think De Gea is far and away the best in the world right now. He's an incredible keeper. His reflexes and shot stopping are obsurd a lot of the time. He makes saves he has no right to save. Find unothadox ways when it's not possible to get down quick enough he used his legs and feet so well. Someone mentioned he's still average in the air. That's not true. He commands and collects nearly everything for us. His distribution is fantastic, he's as good a passer as most our outfield players. On top of all of this when Madrid have come calling countless times he doesn't through the toys out the pram and slam in a transfer request, he gets his head down and performes. True professional at the peak of his trade.

56.) 27 Sep 2017
27 Sep 2017 23:20:59
My 3 are de gea, neuer, and pickford. If this was 5 + years ago no one would get past buffon.

57.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 00:24:02
For me the keeper who commands his box and has the respect of both friend and foe, good with his feet

Buffon x 3.

58.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 01:08:55
Those huge pay rises keep De Gea at at United.

59.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 01:49:41
Donnaruma, Lafont, Areola, Meret, Rajkovic all young talented goalkeepers.

Best right now - De Gea, Neuer, Cech (Arsenal would be far worse without this top keeper. )

60.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 03:33:59
Buffon has been world class forever now, it's just incredible.

61.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 04:19:46
Donnarunna, De Gea, Oblak. Donnartunna might be young but he is already a monster and right up there - can only see him improving in the long term.

62.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 06:44:27
De Gea, Neuer, Donnarumma.

De Gea and Neuer seem to be a lot of people's first choices. I think that's for obvious reasons. Both are at huge clubs and performing well and consistently. Different types of 'keepers aswell.

Donnarumma is quite simply the biggest potential. A huge, imposing player with probably a big move in the next couple of years as long as he keeps his head down and stays professional. The farce in the summer should've been avoided. I'd probably put him in goal against Gliese-581, that should be an easy win.

63.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 06:52:35
I did post a reply yesterday Benny but it hasn't come through. De Gea was at least partially at fault for 3 goals last season off the top of my head and i didn't watch every game he played in either.

Joe Allen vs Stoke where he fumbled a shot and flapped around for both rebounds. Pedro vs Chelsea where he over committed and got beaten easily. Ashley Fletcher vs West Ham were he again fumbled a shot to the attacker.

I think he is an amazing keeper. His reflexes, agility, speed off his line, distribution, shot stopping etc are exceptional. I'm still unconvinced he belongs in the world's top 3 though because he makes enough errors for United, (particularly when it comes to handling) fans to spend a lot of last season calling for Romero to start instead. That was ridiculous because he still wins them more points than he costs them, but that doesn't change the fact he does occasionally cost them!

Looking through the list though it looks like the 3 most agreed on are De Gea, Oblak and Neuer. I'm happy to go with the majority and sling those 3 in for the Intergalatic cup.

{Ed025's Note - de gea is an excellent keeper MK, you can remember 3 mistakes a season whereas liverpool keepers do that per game!, the only reason utd supporters were calling for romero was that de gea had expressed his wish to leave for madrid rather than his form, criticism of him is the fact that he plays for man utd rather than any flaws in his game mate..

64.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 08:10:53
Not criticising him per se, Ed025. I think after Oblak, Neuer, Buffon, Trapp and Handanovic he is the next best in the world. I'm just putting across my argument as to why i chose my top 3 instead. They might not make as many unbelievable saves as De Gea, but they also don't drop as many clangers as he does.

I really rate De Gea nowadays. He has grown into being the best keeper in the Premier League for me, marginally ahead of Courtois and Lloris. I rate him so highly he was my pick for LFC if we could have any other player in the league. He is unreal at times.

I've just not quite got him in my top 3 yet. I think in time Oblak, De Gea and Donarumma will eventually be the 3 best keepers in the world though as Neuer, Buffon and Handanovic are all getting on a bit. Neuer despite not being old for a keeper, will struggle due to his style of play. He relies on his speed as much as some outfield players do.

Sorry for the long reply, i just don't want people to think I'm bitter towards De Gea because of who he plays for. I'm really not. And I'm not daring to suggest he is even comparable to any of Liverpool's keepers regarding mistakes. I'm comparing his mistakes to the world's best, and he does still make a lot compared to them. At 26 though, he's still really young for a keeper. He has anything from 10-15 years left to improve.

Anyway, I'm happy for us as a collective to have him in the top 3, because the majority seem to want him there. I'd still have him in my top 6 in the world, so i don't exactly think he's miles off anyway!

{Ed025's Note - i think hes as good as there is out there MK, every keeper makes the odd mistake just as every striker will miss a sitter every now and then but he also makes the difference between winning games and drawing, in some of the other leagues the intensity is far less as its only 3 or 4 teams who will carry a viable attack who will test a keeper to the full, but in in the prem a keeper has to be alert in most if not all games as its so competitive mate..

65.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 08:51:24
Hello dear Reds!

Even though this is my first post, I've been regularly reading posts from this site since 2009 and would like to use this opportunity to thank everybody for your wonderful contribution and entertainment over the years.

My vote for goalkeepers would be: Neuer, De Gea and Buffon.

Cheers!

{Ed001's Note - welcome aboard Borkes.}

66.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 08:54:11
Looks like the vast majority say de Gea then, nice compliment from you guys 👍.

67.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 10:07:55
He has consistently been the best in arguably the toughest league for a GK to play in. Not only that but he has improved on his weaknesses admirably and been the match winner on so many occasions.

That's why De Gea is in my top 3 without a shadow of a doubt.

68.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 10:46:57
De Gea, Neuer and Buffon for me but I have not seen enough of Oblak or Donnarmurra to have a view. Also rate Lloris and Cech.

69.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 02:45:58
should we not pick the coach first ed002? there would be a reason as to why the three pick is chosen by each poster due to the style of play of the coach.

regardless, i suppose the good GKs can fit in any team, my 3 pick would be:

Neuer, De Gea and Lloris.

Neuer, the best midfielder among the three goalkeepers, not much need to be said there.

De Gea, very good shot stopper and performed well regardless of the pair of CB in front of him. whether the team is playing defensive or attacking, he will excel in both.

LLoris, a very good sweeper keeper, would fit well with a team playing high line.

{Ed002's Note - You are thinking of having Klopp as coach and more goalkeepers?}

70.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 07:16:31
Well done Ed2, this is the longest thread I have seen in all my many years reading this site without people throwing abuse at each other, quite an achievement.
I'd go for Courtois, De Gea and Leno.

71.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 11:14:18
oh i wouldn't pick klopp ed002, my answer to that will be when that thread comes =) .

not sure about the 3 gk comment tho, you said there'll be 3 gks in the squad i picked 3 ha.

72.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 11:59:56
So we have completed the GK position - I will figure out those who seem most popular and post that later. There will now be a new thread for the two right backs you think should be included in or World Team.

73.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 12:12:29
My 3 keepers:
1 - De Gea quality keeper
2 - Donnarumma as back up has potential to be the best
3 - Buffon to give guidance to the two above and act as a player coach.

74.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 12:24:59
1= De Gea
2= Neuer
3= (Who I think Liverpool should be going all out for and sign at any cost, maybe throw Mignolet or Karius into the Deal, Your Opinion Eds? ) Jack Butland.

75.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 12:32:42
Loving the thread so far, going to offer my choices and as much as I admire De Gea I can't bring myself to put any Utd players forward.

So my choices (2 current and one youngster)
Oblak
Neuer
Svilar.

76.) 28 Sep 2017
28 Sep 2017 12:36:43
Hope I am not too late to join the party!
Seems like good fun and will be interesting to see the ultimate fantasy team!
My picks for 3 keepers are:
1. De Gea- To make the transformation into an established world class keeper makes him my number one pick
2. Buffon- Extremely experienced and still a fantastic keeper- a true leader who knows how to organise a back line.
3. Donnarumma- Has so much potential- keepers don't peak until there late 20s so the fact he has established himself as first choice speaks volume.

{Ed002's Note - We have a result for GKs now and have moved on to a separate thread for RBs Morro. Two of you GKs did make the squad.}

That is a fair point Ed, but your comment on the Premier League forcing keepers into action more frequently is actually one of the main reasons i didn't pick any in my top 3.

I think it is a much better mark of a world class goal keeper if you can sometimes go 89 minutes without having to do anything and then pull a save out of the bag from nowhere. It shows a level of concentration that Prem keepers just don't need a lot of the time. I personally think having more shots at you actually makes it easier to look good because you will have more highlight reel footage, but it also prevents your concentration levels from dropping off if you are constantly involved. That is exactly how keepers like Mignolet (Sunderland), Hart (Birmingham) and Vorm (Swansea) have conned their way into top teams in recent history only to be found out.

It's an opinions game though mate. De Gea is clearly special, but having more to do makes it easier to look good, not harder. That is just my opinion though. Liverpool only concede about 5 shots a game, and it exposes our keepers lack of concentration, that they didn't need to worry about in lesser sides as they were always heavily involved.

{Ed025's Note - you make a fair point MK mate..
