its only a matter of time before the call goes out for a gerrard/ Alonso management dream team to be formed hijkle. your absolutely correct in your post though and my suggestion is very much tongue in cheek.

as much as I loved him as a player, he must prove himself first before talking about a couachinf role at our club.

I agree somewhat but I don't think it would be bad for the club if Alonso returned in some capacity? Why not let him help our youth players like we are allowing Gerrard to? Over the years when we were the most successful we had former players in our backroom staff all the time such as Thompson, Paisley, Dalglish, or McAllister to name a few. I don't see the issue if they have the same badges as anyone else applying for the same role they should be offered the job for who they are.

Cyklopps, what you just said is the biggest problem with modern football. Nostalgia and badges.

Badges can be bought. The courses are ridiculously easy, but the cost of them prices most people out. Obviously not millionaire ex players though 🙄

Having the badges only proves that you want to try coaching and have the money to self finance it. The best young coach out there who used to play for us is Bolo Zenden. He has done an exceptional job in Holland. But he doesn't have the profile that Carragher (a TV personality has) so people shout about the wrong person to bring in as a coach.

Look at the young Hoffenheim manager Naglesmann. He is still young enough to be playing, but he got to where he is by being good at coaching, not by being a famous ex player surrounded by a sentimental aura. He would actually be my choice to replace Klopp in a few years if/ when he goes to Bayern Munich. Either him or Pepjin Lijnders who is also an excellent coach. Lijnders already works for the club as well as a development coach; a role he was hand picked for because his outstanding coaching abilities make him perfect for helping young players take the hardest step of their career - the jump to senior level, and adaptation to no longer being the best player on the pitch anymore.

Forget "who they are" all that matters is how good they are.

Or perhaps MK it's more to do with more people have access to and watch Monday Night Football? He certainly seemed to know what he was talking about last night. But then again so does Neville on occasion.

Bled i don't get your point. What does access to seeing him have to do with being ill-informed enough to ask for us to employ him?

As for sounding knowledgeable, you could give any common fan the platform of their own show, access to reels of highlights, and a fancy touch screen. Within an hour they'll convince you they're an expert.

What don't you get old chum? If people see him regularly talking tactics and sounding knowledgeable then maybe that is why they think (rightly or wrongly) that he would be a good coach.

I don't think it would do damage as long as they had the same attitude, unlike gerrard alonso seems to be a calming and likeable character he obviously has a fortune and doesn't need to do such a job but I don't think it's necessarily bad to have ex players back as long as they don't think they're bigger than the club as they've been given the opportunity to come back. It's easy to sit here and have our own opinions because quite frankly they don't matter same with pundits they get paid for opinion but that's all it is, if a exnplauer genuinely had something to offer and a positive influence that would only be a good thing. Nostalgia isn't always a bad thing, it's what keeps fans supporting who they do, anyone remember Istanbul? I'm not advocating living in the past but things can be learned etc and nobody can take the memories away from us.

But MK, a good coach does not necessarily a good manager make. I think you're going over the top suggesting pep be the next lfc 1st team boss. He is by all accounts a good young coach, but really would you put him in charge of lfc straight off the bat?

With that logic would you let a nurse perform surgery on your brain MK? Or would you rather someone who paid to study to be a brain surgeon? Don't understand your logic on coaching badges at all usually you make very smart posts. Whoever has the best qualifications gets in the door MK. The rest of your post has no relevance to the conversation? I said what is wrong with allowing Alonso to start in our youth set up and grow his way into a coach?

I also forget to mention MK that it's interesting you disregard Alonso and Carragher as possible coaches- yet I remember you championing Gerrard as a replacement for Klopp. So I'm interested what has Gerrard done that the others have not that makes you think he's ready for the hot seat while you don't even think the others are sufficient enough for a coaching role?
