Wijnaldum should never play away games. Half the people watching the game would not have even known the guy was on the pitch!
Completely anonymous throughout the game and offered zilch going forward, always choosing to play backwards or losing the ball right in the middle of the park. Very disappointed in Gini. Not sure if he has been instructed to play differently in away games but it is baffling how his performances vary so drastically in home and away games.
If someone's going to make way for Keita next season, its Gini.

Thanks ed, who is Tris Burke btw?

Totally agree about Hendo, he rrally needs to be playing box to box to maximize his talents. Can is the same for me. But is what it is until we bring in someone more defensivley minded. But ed, is that even a possibility? I don't recall but its not felt like we've really prioritized a defensive minded midfielder in klopps time? Or I could be wrong.

Thought chilwell was alright, beat couple times but has express pace and does defend.

For us, the consensus for us watching is that we just switch off too much that leads to errors. That combined with a general lack of awareness and we are always prone to giving up silly goals. Gray had the rin of the field in the lead up to vardy's goal, and none of can, coutinho or moreno were alert to it or even alert to communicating the risk. What can klopp do to fix this besides personnel!?

So, in the meantime let's keep building and developing this team. They're not that far away!

{Ed001's Note - that would be me mate.

It is a possibility that Klopp will look to bring in a more defensively responsible midfielder, he has usually had someone sitting in front of the defence in the past. I expect someone to be targeted for the role next summer, as it is clear the midfielders we have are unable to figure out how to play in tandem.

Personnel looks to be the way to fix it, though there are things that can be done to improve communication and teamwork, the players have to the natural aptitude as well.}

I sincerely hope Klopp makes some changes in the midfield esp. since Cou and Can will be gone, we may need to bring in a defensive minded midfielder as Klopp has played with one in the past.

Also regarding Wiji, I'm a huge fan and yes, he is a very good player and he was brilliant for us last season with goals and assists. However, he was dire last night. In the first 10 mins, I did not see him touch the ball once. He was anonymous for almost the whole game as it looked like we were playing a man down in midfield. Milner came on in midfield and touched the ball 92 times and played 8 key passes (not a stats guy BUT come on) then tha shows how dire Wiji was all game. Must do better.

Cheers for the reply Tris!
Ye I'd be super excited for a defensive type player in midfield. My feeling is that will be as crucial as bringing in a top CB. We get so loose as a midfield so often, be nice to see some solidarity there.

{Ed001's Note - either we keep one fullback deep on attacks, like the old days, or we play someone holding in there, because the midfield just can't be trusted to sort it out between themselves, sadly. Pep tried to come up with a variation by asking the fullbacks to just move inside in front of the centre backs last season. I never saw the point in that, as it then means the centre backs are getting dragged out defensively into fullback areas while fullbacks are in the centre. Just gets messy, as he discovered.

And you are very welcome Faith.}

Great response, Ed. I read your review and on Migs, you took that appraisal of his performance right out of my mouth. Ed01, can you help me as I don't know how Migs became a professional GK? I simply don't know. He makes at least, two mistakes every game that could or actually cost us goals. Yesterday, he made 3.

He dallied on the ball with Vardy flying in and got caught out. Had Okazaki chipped him, it was a sure goal. Then on the first goal, he should have been MUCH stronger coming out and should never have let Okazaki touch him. But he's a nice guy but has he never heard the saying, "Nice guys always finished last"? . Poor goalkeeping there.

It was the penalty that took the biscuit for me. Vardy was getting nowhere near the ball. Had that been Ward or Karius, they would have been bombing off their line to either pick that up or clear that into row z and clean Vardy's clock if he dared stick a foot in cos I have been on the receiving end of some of those hence, why strikers never get anywhere near balls like that cos a GK is known to be out to hurt you if you as their box is their territory.

But what does the "nice guy" do? He jogs out leisurely, gets his STUDS on the ball, the ball barely goes two feet and Vardy clatters into him and the pen is given rightly as well. Complete disaster of a GK. I don't care if he saved it or not, he is to blame. Klopp needs to act NOW cos from this day forward, any mistakes Migs makes will no longer be his fault. It will be that of Klopp for continuing to persist with a disaster of a GK.

{Ed001's Note - technically Migs should be a good, solid goalie. The problem is that he does not communicate, he is too nice to just smash people out of his way when the ball is thrown in. Shame that such a nice guy is failing because he is nice though!}

What I don't understand is why the people in the media don't seem to see how terrible he is. I just read a match report where he was given a 7 and they only really commented on his penalty save. Did they not see his perfect assist for the vardy goal?!

After yesterday's game I hope Leicester get relegated.
Bunch of cheating thugs.

{Ed025's Note - bit harsh that ron, they battle to make up for a lack of quality but to label them thugs is just wrong, liverpool were cruising at 2-0 yesterday but then capitulated because they lack the steel that leicester possess, maybe if liverpool had a bit more of that they would be closer to the top mate..

Good review Ed - would like to see the current side play Can deep, Hendo roaming box to box role and Coutinho upfront - agree Hendo far more effective given the run of midfield while Can has the potential to be effective from deep, just needs to learn to be more disciplined.

{Ed001's Note - thank you.}

Sorry 25 but that's the way I saw it. Leicester's physicality went beyond the rules yesterday. Vardy's late lunging tackles were completely out of control and could easily have broken someone's leg. Morgan was man-handling Matip, how is that allowed? 2 players man-handling Lovren at a corner. Okazaki hanging off Mignolet's arm for the first goal. Chillwell throwing an elbow at Joe Gomez who bizarrely got yellow carded for it.

It reminded me of Wimbledon circa 1988. The ref had absolutely no control of that game and looked completely out of his depth.

{Ed025's Note - leicester are a physical side ron and football purists may not like it but its about getting results mate, teams also know liverpool can be a soft touch at times which is why they struggle more against the lesser lights shall we say, maybe they just need to man up a bit..

Bingo, it's posts like that that make me despair. If Migs was half as bad as you're saying then he wouldn't be playing professionally. He's a talented but flawed keeper and he's got to where he is by hard work. He's been at the club for four years and he's still first choice, he's clearly doing something right that you either can't see or are just ignoring.

Totally agree about Migs ed. He made four terrible mistakes yesterday: first was when he took too long over clearing the ball and Okazaki should have scored, second was when he flapped at the ball off the corner to concede the first goal, third was the save from Gray's shot to Vardy, keepers are taught to push the ball clear not into the centre of the goal (perhaps a little harsh there), and then fourthly was his lack of bravery to concede the penalty, use your hands Simon! I just fear that the penalty save will be enough to keep him in for the next league game. Also you can clearly see that the nervousness from Migs transfers to the defenders as well and the fans.

They got the right result yesterday 25.

Don't usually give a monkeys about other teams but I really hope they go down.

{Ed025's Note - i thought liverpool deserved the win ron..just, but leicester won the league only 2 seasons ago and with some aplomb, i dont think they are as nasty as you think mate but your entitled to your opinion..

Eds, who's your choice for holding mf?

{Ed001's Note - we should have gone for Kessie really but that ship has sailed with him joining Milan in the summer. Maybe Dendocker or Weigl would be decent enough options. Demme of RBL looked good with Keita or one of the two Leicester players, though Ndidi is not in good form, he is only young and the whole team is struggling. He is playing well enough they decided to send the other one I would consider, Mendy, out on loan. Both of those players look capable of stepping up.}

On the subject of Migs bottling it, I recall him doing the same against Hull last year. Its unforgiveable for me.
People don't chose to make mistakes but they do chose to bottle it.
On Leicester physicality, there were a lot of comments after the Mane incident about the game having changed etc I prefer to simplify it by saying I expect some consistency. Clearly there isn't a conspiracy but there is a number of refereeing performances that seem to be contradictory to the rules. We seem to be suffering from decisions that just don't seem to be given elsewhere. Are we not allowed to moan about them? Personally I'd like to see our players moaning to the ref a bit more, it might be distasteful but I do think it's effective. We are just too nice and we are not good enough to be that nice!

Putney, your post is what brings me despair. If you think Migs is playing cos he's better then you are deluding yourself. Ed01 has said that Migs is being phased out gradually and I guarantee you that at some point this season, he will be benched for good and sold in the summer. If not, why do you think Ward was kept and Karius plays CL? I disagree with that approach BUT there you go.

Migs is not half a scrap as I say he is. He IS as crap as a lot of us KNOW he is. How? Cos we are seeing his errors with our very own eyes. In the last two games alone, Migs has made FIVE GK mistakes. Had we lost that game last night, who do you think would be getting the blame cos it will definitely not be the players? It will be him and Klopp for persevering with a disaster of a GK. Talented?
Nonsense. Karius and Ward are talented. Migs is NOT and will never get better.

I shudder to think how he even became a GK as he is not even capable of doing the most basic of things like kick a ball accurately. Karius made two mistakes in 10 games and got kicked out of the team cos the fans turned on him. Mig's LFC career has been littered with errors that have cost us goals and points well in the double digits BUT he is first choice. What is fair about that? Him saving the penalty is a false argument and misnomer cos HE caused it with him bottling a challenge and not wanting to get stuck in with Vardy. A true GK would have hoofed that into row z and cleaned Vardy's clock in the process. But what did Migs do? He bottled it and had he not saved that penalty, would you have posted what you posted? You're the one who is making excuses for a failure of a GK whose record in his LFC career is abysmal and why he will be sold this summer.
