Ed002 what do you make of the result of the court case regarding the school child Liverpool screwed over!

Apparently LFC and the Premier League have paid a £49,000 settlement fee to cover the kids school fee debts, and cleared any compensation due to Stoke so the kid can move on with his career.

What an absolute mess, but i sounds like Liverpool got away with one there. I hope they learn their lesson as it does leave a rather sour taste, this one. Shocking that an establishment as rich as football even took this to court. The fees should've just been wiped to save face in my opinion.

Is this the end of it? And if so have we got off lightly in your opinion?

{Ed002's Note - It is not the result of a court case MK. Liverpool were desperate to avoid a court case due to a major issue (the "smoking gun" I mentioned throughout the summer) that would have arisen. The Premier League will obviously not be paying anything - Liverpool will pay the compensation due to Stoke to release him from his contract, all school fees until he of age and compensation to the parents. The kid will however not move to Liverpool but will be allowed to join any other side free of charge - this might well be Everton. The Premier League are owed a significant "thank you" from Liverpool for facilitating this.}

I dare not ask what the smoking gun was. Sounds like we dodged a bullet if you'll pardon the pun.

Cheers though Ed. Thank god it is
resolved though, and i hope the kid gets his career back on track at Everton or wherever.

Sounds like the Premier League have done us a solid though! Phew!

I'm happy the club will get everything sorted. Shows maturity to right their wrongs. Hopefully learn from all the new rules in place and move on from this.

MK you are on this forum often enough to have gleaned from ed02 what the smoking gun was surely? It was related to claims made in Gerrard's autobiography re player recruitment.

{Ed002's Note - It was nothing to do with that at all stoneage.}

Good to hear that mess has been put to bed.
Should take the money out of the individual's salaries who caused this in the first place.
I was told Liverpool wanted this to go to trial as they refused to pay the money for the kid's education.
Either way, they partially got what they deserved, yet got off lightly in many ways.
Hope the kid goes on to have a fantastic career!

{Ed002's Note - You were told completely wrong.}

I get the impression stoneage that the issue which would've arisen was more related to Liverpool bribing the player to lie to his then current club (Stoke), thus manipulating a minor and his family into breaching their contract. I would imagine that is gross misconduct, an actual breaking of the law (not just football rules) and we could've seen a points deduction or a complete transfer ban. That's all just guess work though from piecing together various bits of information I've read here and elsewhere.

Whatever it was, we should move on now we know this is the end of it.

{Ed002's Note - Move on - you don't know what it was about.}

Talking of kids, I forget the lad's name (but it's quite long I think, foreign, eastern European perhaps? ) Who signed for liverpool in the summer and was hailed as a fantastic signing and made it into the papers (unusual for juniors) I think he was 16 but not sure. Do you know who I mean eds? Well I just wanted to ask how he is getting on? Has he performed well and if so how long until he starts getting reserve matches etc. (He didn't look anywhere near ready in terms to his physicality. Was very slight)
