When do we accept that Hendo isn't a natural captain and can not control a game in the way that the stereotypical captain should. He is a great guy and a good footballer but I fear that as a player who is near impossible to drop he will hold us back.

As for an alternative captain? VvD if he joins could be a vocal lynch pin at the back but what about Can. The kid is an exceptional footballer and we are close to losing him. A regular role and captaincy could make that him such a better player and asset for the team.

What do you think? IMO, no major club should struggle to Instantly name player who have captain attributes.

Emre Can for me. He looks like a tank out there in the middle!

Klopp would, I feel, have no hesitation in droppen Hendo, weather it be to rest him or rotate him. He can't play every game this season. No reason to drop him as captain. He seems to have respect throughout the squad. Keep him as captain.

I think you're wrong and Henderson is a great player. He's getting back to form and he sets the example on the field.

I think you've missed the boat. Henderson is not the most technically talented player but he makes up for it with hard work, determination and passion for the club. Can is a very suitable vice-captain in my eyes. But I'd wait to see both the performances and how VVD gels with the rest of the team (if he joins) before appointing any sort of captaincy on him. The first thing captaincy does is add a huge amount of pressure. Some players can't take it.

Have to disagree on that one. I think a lot of fans expect our captain to be Steven Gerrard Mk II in both leadership qualities and playing ability. He's never had the playing ability of Gerrard, although before his injuries he was vastly improving all the time. I thought his leadership against arsenal was spot on. He kept hammering Lovren for his positioning and man marking until Lovren eventually got it right. His pressing was on point as well for me, and I don't think he had a bad game at all (except his one on one chance which he fluffed) .

I think the trouble we have with him is that soon enough we'll have a midfield which doesn't require him from a playing standpoint but I certainly feel his leadership takes us up that extra notch and would be difficult to replace at this moment in time.

Whoever said he was impossible to drop and how is he going to hold us back, exactly? A captain does not have to play every game as it is physically impossible to do that. He will be rested in certain games as we have a busy season. Don't know what you are moaning about, really but it seems illogical and pointless.

Ohhh you mean emre 'shop window performances'can, instead of always perf9rming, working harder than All, fought against all the odds, walk into any premier league midfield Henderson?

This whole post is a joke right?

Don't you remember how poor Can looked in Klopps first season whenever Hendo wasn't alongside him to talk him through the game?

And as for your VVD comment? Vocal? VVD is about as vocal on the pitch as a mime. How can he call the defensive line when he is never bloody in it? He is positionally inept and you think he will help others with their positioning? Good individual player but he is no leader.

He is played in a wrong position to me that lead to his downfall! His best attribute is his energy and pressing. Should play high up. He is no controller or creator to play deep. His passing is average hence he always prefers safe sideways passing. Keita in all fairness will replace him with Can / Wiji taking the position alongside of Kieta!

Couldn't disagree more.

Not only is Hendo in my eyes an excellent leader and with him on he pitch we look far more organised and confident, but he is a crucial player for us and we sorely miss him when he's injured.

Technically sound with a good range of passing, but his drive, energy and passion are crucial for the way we play with Klopp esp.

Remember what happened in 2014 when Hendo was suspended and we lost the title? With him perhaps it could've been different.

Really feel for the lad as he has been constantly and unfairly abused by sections of our fan base for his whole time here, time to pay him some respect and appreciate how crucial he is for us.

Hendo is our captain! He doesn't have to be a gobshite to be a good captain. too many players have too much to say and don't do the business on the pitch. He was part of a midfield 3 that would have been a match for the best midfields across Europe Sunday and led my example with the press and ball retention. What is a stereotypical captain these days? What is a stereotypical midfield player by the way? The game is changing rapidly and your stuck in the past if you want a tall centre half with a head bandage screaming at everyone and the ref to lead our team!

All the Hendo bashing really irritates me and its all because he's not Gerrard captain fantastic. He is supposed to be deployed in the number 6 position and how many players get assists, goals, unlock defences etc from there? His passing is excellent, it's much better to wait for the right 'killer' pass than to just chuck it forward in hope. I think people need to realise that most players, even the really good ones, are not Gerrard or Alonso.
