With regards to VVD, would you think there's efforts behind the scenes to try and smooth things over with Southampton with the intention to try and see if they would be open to selling the player to us? Or at the very least consider the sale. I know Southamptons public stance is the player isn't for sale, but as we know these things rarely mean anything in public.

They withdrew their interest publicly. That doesn't mean they have privately. I guess if they still maintain an interest. Obviously if they lodge a bid if it comes to that then yes they will have very publicly gone back on their word. I think if Liverpool want to do things correctly then they should pay whatever Southampton want if they choose to sell as they caused the mess. Well Klopp did.

I know Macca maintains VVD will come, to me I think it's pretty straightforward. I say not given the relationship between the clubs as it stands. I have a feeling we'll get to the end of the window with no new additions now. I know there's a while to go but I'd rather stick with what we have until Jan than have a knee jerk Balotelli situation on our hands. The team isn't that far off. If we can sort the defensive frailties out then we will be a hard team to beat.

I think you are right Ed. I think this is the Clint Dempsey tapping up saga all over again. Fulham were ready to sell CD but NOT to LFC at any price and that is how it went down. Here, Saints don't want to sell VVD to us and if they do, they will stick us for more cash than for other suitors.

{Ed001's Note - there is also the problem of the fans down there, who have had enough of us cherry picking their best players each summer. The club can not afford to just carry on letting us do so or they will struggle to get crowds in.}
