Been a while since posting but find it kind of strange that LFC were not aware of the Coutinho to Barcelona issue. I felt that after we bid a ridiculous 60-70m for a relatively unknown German lower team midfielder in Keita added to a potential 50-60m for VVD that the money was probably going to come from the sale of PC but with both Leipzig and Soton holding out and like us not willing to let go of their best players without a fight we have ended up with this problem. My opinion would be that there was some contact from Barcelona weeks ago that PC was aware of and LFC were hoping to soften the blow by sealing the two key transfers plus another to appease the fans. Basically no Keita, VVD progress and now a potential stand off with PC. A good outcome although massively unlikely would be PC to Barcelona in exchange for Rakitic and Gomes plus some cash? Albeit this close to the season is highly unlikely would be interested in anyones thoughts>!

No. Why buy a player we didn't want. I am not up for this let's take him cause you don't play him much and that can help you financially in take our best player off us.
I do believe if we had got Keita then our Manager might of been happier. But i still think he would of stood his ground over one of our best players leaving.

We are not going to have any of Barca's players when there is absolutely no interest from Liverpool to take on players which are surplus on Barca's books.

Take the money, we don't need Rakitic and Gomes.
I'd consider Javier Pastore from PSG. They need to sell to get Mbappe, Neymar has benched Pastore. Pastore is 28 - at his peak - and a world class player. He will help bring through the likes of Woodburn and is a similar player to Coutinho.
Take £120m for Coutinho and buy Pastore for £35m - good business.

Leipzig finished 2nd above Dortmund last season. They are hardly a German lower team.

Always liked Pastore but would PSG really sell . I'd prefer if we could keep Couts for 1 more year I mean if we really, I mean really have any ambitions for the season ahead then it's imperitive that we keep Phil I know its Barcelona calling and it's nearly impossible to not have your head turned by a club like them but isn't it about time the someone stuck 2 fingers up to them and told them where to go which is what's needed to be done to put some manners on them and the likes of Madrid who both think everyone should bow down to them and sell them their best players at a snip of what they are worth .

Wasn't couts a surplus player at inter?
Just because Barcelona don't need a player doesn't mean they are all bad.

I don't rate Pastore at all. He is lazy, slow, inconsistent and physically weak for a player so tall.

He reminds me more of Ozil than Coutinho. Except he is a poor mans Ozil.

I'd take Rabiot, Cavani, Draxler, Verratti, Trapp or Matuidi! Doubt any of them are available though.

Pastore is available.

{Ed002's Note - I suspect it will be more likely that they would look to players they have an interest in.}
