This may go down like a brick in a swimming pool but I don't understand the hype around Van Dyke and I honestly don't believe he's worth 70 mil, but I suppose that's the price you've got to pay when you've got Chinese teams paying a bomb for average players and inflating the prices of everyone.

That's the price you have to pay for conducting your business without any integrity, professionalism or ethics.

He is right, Had we conducted things in a proper manner, VVD would be with us already!

I don't think the amounts being handed over has anything to do with China, more down to the ridiculous TV deals, which I think are a recipe for disaster and one day will come back to bite the premier league in the ass.

£50m for John Stones 12 months ago.

£70m for VVD seems like a bargain by comparison.

£50 mill for Ke Walker! I would happily pay above for VVD!

if I buy something, anything, I cannot actually truthfully tell you if it is a bargain until the goods have been consumed/ used etc?!

Many clubs have examples of apparent bargains that were far less than that. Stone, thus far, is a prime example.

With footballers it is not so much about the individual but more about the team, their ability to work together, etc. I will widen that to Squad rather than Team. Yes you have to have decent individual quality but it goes without saying that if those individual qualities do not gel together then things go bad.

What I saw last year - actually since Klopp came in - is a team that were starting to gel well together. There is an argument therefore that too many additions and/ or not the right ones from a team player mentality perspective could actually worsen the position of last year even I feel seen as major individual qualities.

Spurs also seem to have a manager capable of getting the best out of individuals in a team/ squad scenario - they have not dipped into the transfer market much - actually they got a great deal, and ott price for a sale to City, but I bet they compete.

All summed up we will compete I've no doubt but there are 6 very decent teams there now - with a few that will compete well as a group of next level. Remain strong to be seen which manager rallies his squad the best and has the man management skills to get them to #1.

......................Eds always swerve this point so won't get posted again.

{Ed002's Note - It doesn't guet "swerved", it is something that is laughable as you don't know what it was about. Please share with me the names of the other two people who attended - and particularly what they do for a living and who employs them. Idiot.}

OP is correct in my opinion. I rate VVD but not as much as 70m. I'd rather see more of young Gomez.
