When Lucas came in he had a really bad time. The fans were only too quick to pull him to pieces. OK he did make a lot of mistakes and seemed too slow and ponderous to be of any benefit to the first team.

I remember cursing my head off on more than one occasion due to stupid free kicks he used to give away etc.

BUT what a brilliant player and more than that, what a top, top man. He is the kind of person who most people would love to have as their friend, including me. I love the man and will be very sad to see him leave.

Makes you wonder if his shot hadn't been 'saved' by Neville in that derby, things might have been different! Still a legend in my view, been through good and bad times, without a bad word for anyone.

Here's hoping Lucas gets the Anfield testimonial he deserves one day.

I just finished watching Lucas: 10 years a Red on Liverpool TV. Good little documentary and reminder of the challenges he had.
