1st time rant, so go easy.
At times last season we were unbeatable, the 3 players we missed most were Matip, Coutinho and Mane. When they weren't in the team we really suffered (Ok, Hendo too, but Emre is an able deputy) . If we sign VVD and Keita to go with Salah we've got top class replacements for all 3 if they're not fit.

When they're all available we'll have better strength in depth than we've had in years and the competition for places motivates players, especially with UCL games to play in. Would that not be a good transfer window? For a change?

i agree Dennerly, but somehow i don't feel like we'll be getting both or even 1 of VVD and Keita. there's a lot of rumours, talks going around but until i see them confirmed, i won't be getting excited.

if however we do manage to pull both, including atleast a LB if not another RB as well, we do have better strength in depth and i expect us to challenge on all competitions next season. it does however, mean that its a make or break season for klopp for most likely breaking the transfer record 3 times in a row (VVD>Keita>Salah) in a single season.

Change VVD to someone who can really defend and not just rely on his speed to make a last ditched tackle and it would be a great transfer window for us. For me the problem is all the extra games people talk about- if we don't play well in the qualifying rounds and are kicked out of CL then we have a bloated squad and will be very difficult to keep everyone happy. On a side note don't you guys think the last 2 managers we have/ had-Klopp and Rodgers are like kids in a candy shop when it comes to tranfer.

Klopp did very well last season in terms of transfers, and this year Solanke and Salah seem shrewd. can't put him in the same bucket as the previous seasons where it seems quantity was prioritised over quality (with a couple of notable exceptions) .

Rodgers may have been like a kid in a candy shop, and plenty of fans are but that's not the same with Klopp.
I'm not sure how you arrive at that conclusion.

Spot on, Crazy. To the OP's post, the issue is not that the players we are looking at (NK and VVD) will not improve us. The problem is their evaluation and price. That is the issue for me. 140m for two players who for one, is a HUGE gamble for a player with only one season in a top league tho talented, and for the other who is talented but has a lot of faults to his game. That is my issue.

People say "the money is irrelevant". Well, that is patently false. If that was the case, why did Chelsea (who spend like no tmrw presumably) had to back down from VVD and Bonucci both better than VVD, by the way) cos they were too expensive. Even some of their fans are whining that they can't get their first choice targets. They are now going for Ruddiger (Roma) for 30m. So are people trying to tell me that VVD is worth more than twice the price of a German international (VVD would not even make the stands at CB for Germany) who is more experienced and a more polished CB than he is? Sorry but that makes no sense to me.

There are very good players for great value out there and Mo Salah is a perfect example of that as he is more proven as a player than Keita overall is so I suggest we get to work and find the right players for us instead of dropping 140 for two high risk players. Even Chelsea don't do that anymore.
