Just a thought. If we don't get a centre back this window, is it possible lovran can push on. He had some good performances last season. Could it be like when Lucas failed to settle quickly?

Probably on my own here, but I think if he kicked in to gear then the partnership with him and matip could be quite potent.

Who's to say if we got vvd that he would settle right away?

Lucas came from gremio (? ), was young and having his position changed.
Lovren came from Southampton after years In England and played in his natural position, as well as being older.
Oranges and lemons.

I'm not so worried about Lovren as a starter, alongside Matip he's been OK. My concern is if one of them get injured.

He is a good defender, problem is he could be having a good game for 75 minutes and the next 15 he looses all his abilities as a defender and human being in general and is just a error prone pair of legs with no brain, no reading of the game whatsoever. Simply put if he is put under pressure by opposition he bottles it up most times.
Again he is not a bad defender but i feel he lacks the fight when oppositions have a go at us. He is just no hyppia, carragher or agger as of yet and i feel we need an updgrade.
that said i would not be disheartened though if we carry on with the pair of lovren and matip.
i certainly donot see VVD as major improvement over Lovren. and there are very limited CB options out there.

The whole defence needs improving.

More important than signing Salah.

We have to cut out the nonsense at defending set pieces.

A defensive lynchpin with leadership qualities and the abiliy to pull it all together iz a must.

Such players are unfortunately few and far between.

My concern really is that we don't have a centre back partnership. Two persons to play together for at least 30 league games. Let them build an understanding. We haven't had that in a very long time.
