Neither. One is not good enough and the other has not played in a year.

Out of premiership keepers who may be available I'd take Begovic. He's too good to stay on Chelseas bench another year (but then, he knew that's where he'd probably be when he moved there)

Why has karius not been given time to settle can noone remember seeing dea gea first season he was garbage now look at him i would rather give him time he's young and everyone righting him off he wasn't rated the 2nd best keeper in Germany behind neur for a no reason.

Interesting that most people are currently going for neither!

I agree on Begovic, Bandit, as that would still give Karius a chance to develop and learn. Recruiting Butland or Pickford (similarly young keepers) would mean the writings on the wall for Mings and Karius.

Butland over Pickford by a mile.

Karius has not played much in the last year.
Difference between Karius and de Gea's first season is De Gea had decent coaching. Karius hasn't.

Its really funny how every time a young gk fails his fans call him as the next ddg, for starters james ddg was considered heir apparent to casillas and considered better than likes of reina when we signed him, did you or anyone here really know about karius before you signed him, when one talks about young german keepers people say leno, ter stegen, trapp i have not read many people calling karius being very highly rated. And he was not rated 2nd best gk in bundesliga, he was 3rd and that too joint 3rd with horn, 2nd was leno.

Begovic is a great shout, experienced reliable and would help bring on Karius.

Buying any keeper means the writing is on the wall for Karius. He is not going to want to sit on the bench.

Common he got dropped because the fans turned on him to protect him the keeper has talent what worldwide keeper do you know who would actually be available? Why throw more money at another keeper when we need strength elsewhere dea gea might have had better coaching staff but why get rid of the keeper? Shouldn't it be the coaching staff to get the boot. Where we are useless is at set peices and have for years since sami left if we cleaned that up we would the best team in the league and that might be me been delusional but our forward play is magnificent and as we have proven against the top teams this season if you want to go toe to toe we will destroy you.

Difference between DE Gea and Karius is that one's much better than other.

Butland is Joe Hart lite. Shaky on crosses, poor kicking and no organisational skills.

Pickford at least is a very good shot stopper, makes good decisions when coming for crosses and kicks superbly. Even if he also is useless at organising his defence.

Really don't know how Butland got to be so highly rated.

jamesy, klopp seems to rate Achterberg.
I said from day 1 Karius has a lot of improvement to make if he wants to succeed in the premier league. LFC is not the club to learn how to keep goal because our coaches are not good enough. Butland is already more than capable of being a number 1 in the premier league. He doesn't need to be improved by our coaches. Karius does.
I'm not having a go at Karius, he was never ready to start in the premier league and he was thrown in at the deep end under prepared.

Begovic is old news so people should stp mentioning him as the guy has been burning a hole on Chelsea's bench for two years so how will he be better than Karius who has been playing in the German League for three years straight? You don't gett better by not playing, end of.

Ron, How will we know if Karius is the guy if he doesn't play? Or do you think 10 games is enough to judge a GK now?

You say Butland doesn't need coaching? What nonsense. EVERY player needs coaching REGARDLESS of how long they've been playing. Butland hasn't played for a year while Karius has been playing, training and learning all through that time so how will Butland (injured for the past year/ 18 months) be better? Still not making sense, bro.

Is Achtenburg the best GK coach around? I don't think so. But to say Butland should step in cos he doesn't need coaching is laughable. Karius is talented and Klopp will not give up on him until he proves that he can't hack it and ten games where he committed 2/ 3 mistakes proves ABSOLUTELY nothing.

"He doesn't need coaching" is what YOU said
"He doesn't need to be improved by our coaches" is what I said. There is a difference.

You think Karius is ready? Well Klopp disagrees with you on a weekly basis.

I consider myself a bit of a goalkeeping geek if you like and id say sometimes you just know someones not suited and sometimes they clearly take more time to grow into their position, you shouldn't be learning your trade at a big club and that's a fact, we don't have points to waste in training school, Friedel for example looked a far superior keeper when in his late 30's to just over 40 i think it was but in his younger days in the top division looked awful, we obviously don't have that level of patience lol but at a high profile club do you say right that was a mistake and move on by signing someone new or give the time to a man to develop? Its a high pressure business nowadays and Im not sure many are given loads of time anymore, managers jobs are on the line everyday and they don't get given the grace of a lot of points dropped.
Karius is young, but he's not 18, he should know his job by now and I don't take with the premier league being different argument or the De Gea thing as he was a one off in my book, my own opinion and I know ED02 has told us he's Klopps number one is that Karius will end up leaving us if we reach the champions league, or at best be number two to someone else with Migs leaving, but we will see, I take nobodies thoughts and info as gospel anymore, I just wait and see what gives with this club lol
Have a good weekend folks! YNWA.

I would stick with Karius. Which GK would look good and play with confidence behind OUR defence? I use the word defence very loosely. Matip needs a stronger partner, Clyne offers very little protection and although Milner has done a sterling job, he's no LB. Defensive cover from midfield is scarce to say the least most games, especially now Hendo seems to struggle for any lengths of fitness. We need to address these issues before we can really assess our Karius.

Ritchie if you were such a GK geek, you would know that for a young GK to thrive, you have to have a good defence around him to protect him while he learns the ropes. Do you see that happening here as of now? NO! I'm no GK geek. I actually played the GK position a bit and if you are as exposed as Karius was vs Bmouth, you would concede too. Every young GK will struggle but you have to help him and not hang him out to dry then blame him for all our defensive ills. That makes no sense.
