As skillful and technically gifted as James Rodriguez is, I am not convinced he is the right player to replace Coutinho should he leave.

Don't get me wrong, he has incredible vision, a wicked set piece delivery, and can ghost past people. However I am just worried by his failure to translate his international form to club level. It is like he lacks that fire in his belly when he isn't representing his country.

Very good player who can play on either wing, but he is predominantly an attacking midfielder. We really need to start targeting players for their natural positions and I don't see what Rodriguez brings to the table that we can't already get from Lallana, Firmino etc.

If you think he can't at least match what couts has done you'd wanna give your head a wobble.

I don't think he'd play of the wing anyway he'd be in the middle.

We will be buying winger to play on the left.

I have more chance in marrying margot Robbie than Liverpool do in signing james rodriguez, we couldn't afford his wages for a start.

Rafa Silva will be his replacement.

We'll probably end up with Oxlade-Chamberlain knowing our rotten luck and poor recruiting.

Kenny

Hands off Margot, she is mine

😍😍😍😍.

{Ed001's Note - I am just worried that anyone would think, despite all evidence to the contrary, that Rodriguez would be good enough to replace Coutinho. He is rank rotten, slow, terrible atttitude with nothing to recommend him. One of those that only looks good on two second clips on youareacompletetube. Anyone that actually watches him regularly will know he has been a complete disaster at Madrid and they are desperate to get rid of him. If we buy him, we are accepting mediocrity.}

Not great at Madrid ed well that's an overstatement lol

But clearly unbelievable hidden talent he was unplayable at the World Cup.

Has he got attitude problems? Strange how he got a big club move and it failed?

{Ed001's Note - he was not unplayable, nor does he have unbelievable talent. He is ridiculously overrated and nothing special at all talent wise. You clearly have never watched him play on a regular basis and are basing your views on a few matches in a crap tournament. He had a couple of flashes of brilliance, which is all he has ever done in his entire career. 3 weeks of dross followed by one MOTD moment and people with no idea only see that one moment so worship at his feet.

Nothing strange about it. He was bought because he is a good looking lad and has a huge commercial value for Madrid, who are all about making money first, playing football second. He would never have got that same chance at a real football club.}

We don't even have any interest in him though right? Wages too high also.

Some players are not even capable of flashes of brilliance so he's got more than most 😂.

Thing is though, if Coutinho does go, which is likely, we will need to replace him and I'd be disappointed if we ended up with an also ran like Oxlade or a one season wonder like Mahrez because neither of them are fit to lace little Phil's boots.

Hm, definitely not as bad as Ed001 is making out. Although, equally not as good as most would have you believe.

A good player who has been out of form and had little impact at Madrid. Sure he can be a very handy player for achampions league level side still who would offer him more of a roaming role and play around/ for him.

I think their are two sides to this argument and the truth is somewhere in between.

He is a good player, but he is not world class. With the amount of money he would cost though, he should be world class which is why he would not represent good business!

To be fair to Rodriguez, he definitely has ability and when he can be bothered he can hurt teams. However he is really not much better (if at all) than Lallana, and definitely not as good as Coutinho.

I think the argument about his ability is pretty redundant anyway. He is just so clearly not what we need. We have Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino, Wijnaldum, Grujic and Ejaria who are all best in attacking midfield roles or behind a striker. 4 of those guys are currently in our starting eleven which hurts the teams balance very visibly at times. Based on our current formation and where they are playing; If we were to sell Coutinho we should sign a proper left winger, if we sold Firmino we would need a striker, and if we sold Lallana we would need a more traditional midfielder. It was a Rodgers habit to flood the squad with attacking midfielders so let's not continue that tradition!

If Couts left I think Rafa Silva would be a great replacement personally. We should go for the right players in the right positions instead of those who, as Ed001 basically put it, look desirable!

Your last post is dead spot on MK. Positions over Names or players. Left winger and not an ACM please!

I hope Klopp give Ojo or Wilson a go on the left wing.
No point in having these youngsters if we don't trust them.
Sterling was raw when he got his chance and he took it. We need to give Ojo or Wilson the chance to stake a claim.

Very silly to say Mahrez is dross.

He has got wonderful control, excellent ball playing skills.

The way he controls a long ball is pure poetry in motion.

Plz stop saying he isn't fit to .

shows your ignorance.

cheers.

{Ed001's Note - Puzzled, James is not out of form at all, that is nonsense. He is playing at the level he was when he was bought. He had a couple of good games for his country and suddenly ignorant people, who know nothing about him, think he is a superstar. He has never been outstanding at club level, ever. He might be great on FIFA or FM, I have no idea, but in real life he has done nothing on the pitch to deserve the reputation he has.}

I have seen James play and he's a good player and that is about it. He is everything Ed says he is as I've seen him a lot cos I watch RM a lot as I have been a supporter of theirs since the days of Butragueno and Hugo Sanchez. Yeah, a very long time. James is not fit to lace Coouts' boots, period. Couts is younger, more skillful, works harder, has a great attitude and mentality, all the things James is NOT and does NOT possess. James is good BUT definitely NOT world class and his attitude stinks hence why Zidane wants nothing to do with him. He can't even get on the pitch ahead of Lucas Vasquez, an average player BUT one who works his socks off. James will be a waste of time and money and frankly, his attitude will make Klopp lose his mind. Rather get Brandt or someone else in and KEEP Couts.
