Ed1 not liverpool rated but interested to hear your views on buffon - "greatest Keeper ever? of the modern age? or just over rated? i've been having this discussion with a few of my mates who all claim him to be over rated and that the likes of neuer etc is better. just interested to hear your opinion on him, for me i think he's one of the best keepers ever but that could be down to playing in a defensive league etc.

{Ed001's Note - defo 100% one of the greatest ever, despite having back problems for a large part of his career. A lesser keeper could never have continued at the top level like he has. He is better than Neuer because he does the old school stuff modern keepers don't do - organise the defence. Nowadays it is all organised by coaches before games, Buffon still does it himself and so can react to changes in opposition set ups. A true legend of the game.}

He and Dino Zoff are my two favorite goalkeepers of all time. Closely behind is Lev Yashin and Kahn.

Buffon is the greatest keeper there has ever been. Bringing up a defensive league is irrelevant, a shot saved is a shot saved.

Buffon the greatest keeper of my generation hands down. I played in goal as a youth and I was coached to be the boss when defending set pieces, someone on each post everyone get goalside of a opposition player of similar size quite simple really . Zonal marking just seems complicated. The best keepers Schmiechal Seaman Goram Kahn all took charge of their box and the player who didn't do his job definitely knew it was his fault . I actually miss these commanding style of keepers.

I saw his debut at Parma in 1996. You knew Buffon would be special the moment he went toe to toe in his duel with a certain George Weah who was in his prime. He has not looked back since. He is still old school and fits the old school saying that GK's get better with age and surely he has. His heir apparent Donaruma, is not to bad himself.

Speaking of Italian keepers does anyone know how Donnaruma is doing at Milan. There was a lot of praise around hi. Early on but haven't heard of anything since.

I was always a Jean Marie Pfaff fan. Not sure how he was at organizing, but a great shot stopper, imo.

Chatted to Buffon and Cannavaro in hotel i was staying in for weekend away in Glasgow when they were over for match against Scotland. didn't know it was the Italy base and day of the match there were hundreds outside trying to get in it was bizarre, anyway i digress Both were really nice and got photos etc.

What struck me was how humble Buffon was compared to all the other Italian players, he was not looking for the Italian or Scottish press and just hung about away from the cameras, I always remembe that fact that he wasn't a media diva, plus he's huge.

Donnaruma is Buffon - 2.

Jonesred, Donnaruma has been in top form for Milan all season. If you like, check the Juventus-Milan game played a couple of weeks ago. Milan lost 2-1 ( a dodgy penalty) BUT I can tell you that were it not for Donnaruma's heroics, it could easily have been 8 brilliant saves.

He was equally brilliant vs Juventus at Milan where Milan won 1-0. He is a very good reason why Milan are within a shout of the CL this season. Brilliant GK and one I would love at LFC even tho, I think if Karius can settle in well with a good defence in front of him, he can be great as ell.

He was my idol when I was a young keeper. He's been a constant in the Italian national team for 2 decades, and just shy of that for Juventus winning just about every title he could along the way. He is the best in my experience of football at the least.

Anyone calling him overrated has zero knowledge in regards to football. He has played at the very top for almost his entire career, won pretty much every major honor he could win, stayed with Juventus when they were relegated for match-fixing and in general has conducted himself in an exemplary fashion on and off the pitch - absolute legend and certainly, in my life time (born 1984 - can remember football from like 94' onwards), one of the best I've seen.
