Question for Ed 2 please
What is your opinion on performance based incentives / contracts . It seems like players play with hunger when they have a point to prove. Like Emre Can atm, they then secure a huge contract and performances slip ( like Lalana ) . How do you ensure that the players remain hungry to consistently perform and not fall in to a comfort zone. or do I have a too simplistic view of things?

{Ed002's Note - If you have a team that plays for each other and are on similar wages then performance based bonuses work - the team bond and the work toward a common goal that sees them benefit as a group. The issue is now that there is such a disparity between those who sho up and perform every week and those that have very highly paying contracts. Once the disparity is large it causes an us and them, or even worse, an us and him scenario. Most clubs don't have this issue but the further up the chain you go the more the issues are evident - Real Madrid and Ronaldo is an issue now as a bunch of the players - regardless of what they are paid - don't see him pulling his weight. Barcelona - we are seeing a split between Messi and Neymar 9the old and the new) that is within 6 months going to see major issues. Manchester United has a good player in his mid 30s who wants a two year deal at very significant money as he runs down his career - a problem. I appreciate that Can played very well this week judging by reports from here - but I suspect he will be cannon fodder in the summer as he has been inconsistent. The time to discuss his contract is probably not in the days after a decent performance. The time to discuss it is after half a dozen decent performances in a row. Can is a decent player but perhaps one that will ove on.}

{Ed002's Note - Not necessarily.}

Doesnt affect the nfl.

Theres a understanding that certain players get paid more.

Its supply and demand.

Pogba keeps the club a global club. Yes he might not be performing but he's getting paid for putting united back on the map and cementing the addidas deal as he is there poster boy.

Coutinho scores 40 yard beautys.

Origi does not. For exanple if he came a knocking.

My nfl analagy was a qb can be on a 100 million pound contract and aome of the guys in his defensive line could be on 1/ 2 mil a year. Rolling contracts. There easily replaced. A qb is not.

Ronaldo is not easily replaced. The majority are.

You gey paid for what you do. If can had hit 15 goals this year then would we be even on any of these subjects. he could demand what he wanted. He hasnt. He doesn't have much leverage. That was just for my point i know he's said he wanted game assurances over money.

{Ed002's Note - You have an extremely naive view about Pogba.}

In my opinion, players should only get a pay rise / new contract, at the end of the season . how many times have players got their pay increase, then their form has dropped, I can recall 3 Liverpool players right away who did this . Klopp messed up again .
