Good result for the U23s against Huddersfield in the Premier League Cup yesterday in a game which they won 6-2.
It was a strong team that played as Woodburn, Trent AA, Stewart, Wilson and Ojo started and they were all excellent in a very one sided game.
Woodburn scored our first goal early on and he set up the second goal which was scored by Virtue. Harry Wilson then grabbed his goal a few minutes before half time and then Ojo scored right on the stroke of half time to make the score 4-0.
In the second half, we came out of the blocks strongly again and Harry Wilson scored his second early on. The intensity dropped after that which can be accepted really as we were 5 up at the time.
Our defence had very little to deal with but Huddersfield did manage to grab two consolations before the end. Woodburn scored our sixth in the closing minutes of the game with a beauty. You can see the goal on Liverpool FC's Instagram page.
Glad to see Woodburn scoring, assisting and pretty much dominating the game. Great performance all round and this result sums up a good weekend for the club.
Next game is Derby at home on Sunday. Derby are bottom of the league so on paper this game should be a win but we know that football doesn't go that way. It's also on lfctv for those who can't make it to the game.

Thanks very much for that RedMan! Unfortunately living in Ireland I can't get to games too easily, can I ask what system the U23's play? From what i've read on here it's a similar system and style but more specifically how do the guys line up? Ojo left, Wilson right and Woodburn in the centre?
Cheers for your post, love hearing how these guys are doing!

The last game looked more like a 4-3-3 and in most games Stewart often sits base of midfield and Matty Virtue often the box to box and third midfielder often Ejaria. Upfront looked to be Woodburn left, Ojo centre and Wilson right but they were very fluid.

I've also seen Woodburn play a more Llalana type role (ie. advanced/ creative midfield) in some of the recent games, and then Brewster upfront. I wouldn't be surprised to see Woodburn being developed for that sort of role going forward.

Yes the system is similar to that of the first team. It's usually Ojo and Wilson on the flanks with a striker through the middle. Although, there is no reluctance to change in a game as Ojo went up front against Arsenal at half time to partner Brewster.

Keep an eye on Brewster, he has the making of a great striker.

Cheers DaRed and thanks for the updates. Think our youngsters are lookin good and wouldn't be surprised to see Matty Virtue being given a chance to train with 1sts at some point too. Seems a good all rounder from what I've seen?

Of them all I was (and still am) very excited about Ojo but Woodburn looks to be edging ahead of late with his ability to pass, score, tackle and create. Think he has great potential as a no.10 myself.
