Will sturridge be sold at the end of the season? I think he will, the way i see it he is now second choice behind a makeshift striker firmino. He no longer makes runs behind opposition defences and hos goals return is diminishing year on year. He will never again be a 20 goal a season striker and do hos wages justify having him sit on the bench an score 8 goals a season.

Undoubtedly he has finishing still in his locker but is that enough. Towards the close of the southampton game there was a chance for him to chase a ball to keep it in play and keep us possession, he didn't even try and only moved when he realised it wasnt going out of play by which time it was too late and southampton won the ball back. When you are chasing a game that is not the right attitude to have.

I fear he is fast running out of chances and i am not convinced klopp will continue giving them to him.

I think Martial is a great player but there is not a hope in hell of United doing business with Liverpool.

I also think Sturride is on his way out the door - Irish Rover, true mate no chance is that deal ever happening.

The same should be the case for Milner. Yes he did well in a few games but has been abysmal in a fair few too. He must be on what 130-150£ per week. One can have 2 classy left backs and still have change left on that salary. We as a team are carrying too many ordinary players who at times even seem less than ordinary. It would be just awesome if the management just get the hold and accept many of our squad members can be easily upgraded on in the summer window and just go for it.

There's no doubt that Studge isn't playing well at the moment but is that his fault or the team's (legitimate question, it's a chicken and egg thing)? Last season he was scoring regularly so there's no reason he can't do that again. I think it comes down to what Klopp thinks of him in training, if Studge is doing the business there then I think Klopp will persevere with him as I can't see us getting someone better who's happy to sit on the bench.

I was at the game on Wednesday and I have a lot of sympathy for Sturridge. Ok he missed a couple of gilt edged chances but he put in a decent shift. He was the only one who made a runs along and beyond the line looking for space behind but our build up play (particularly in the first half) was too slow. We seem unable to get beyond the full backs wide.
We did a lot better in that regard second half and because of it created numerous chances but didn't take them. Southampton played well and deserved to get through. We have a number of players not quite on their game through either coming back from injury, carry small knocks but doing their best to play through the pain barrier, or simply lacking a bit of confidence. Plus Mane or outlet.
Onwards and upwards as the past is the past and the next game is always the most important one

still think we should have another pacy forward in our squad, when Mane is out for whatever reason, its so obvious that is what we are missing right now .

{Ed002's Note - Someone like Ojo you think?}

I agree with you, Patemondo BUT I have to say, Studge is one of the players that have let Klopp down and that has to be said. Many were complaining on here that Klopp wasn`t getting chances to play while we were flying and should be starting over Firmino who actually, had been performing. We all knew mane would go to the AFCON and I an many others, thought Studge and Origi would benefit and take the chances provided to them.

I'm sorry, Studge and indeed Origi, Can, Klavan, have disappointed. Origi and Can are still young and learning so I have time for them for now. Studge? I do not, sorry. They say he`s the best finisher in the PL WHEN on form. That`s my problem. When. When has that ever been, this season? When is that going to be this season? Based on current evidence, "When" will be never and the Saints game proved it for me.

He may have put in a good shift and so did others like Can, Firmino and Lallana but he had two chances to score and he hopelessly shanked one and his lack of pace and anticipation, robbed him of the second chance. What is Klopp to do when players are failing him in crucial moments? I hope they step up and Studge tarts scoring cos he will get chances but he'd better buck up cos time waits for no man.

I kinda agree with you patemondo, our set up does not lend itself to his current strenghts. I should have quantified my post by saying i don't particularly want him to go. He is a nice lad and well liked in the dressing room and its been said before that he helps out a lot of the young lads.

I just hanker after the old sturridge with his fast twitch muscles that could sprint rather than saunter after balls played in behind. His finishing is as good as it always was, despite the southampton game.

I also agree ed 02, wednesday was tailor made for ojo to come in and try and stretch play and get in behind. I also criticised klopp for playing Can who is having a nightmare month and not changing players that were so clearly struggling like lalana who gave the ball away the whole night.

Build from the Back.
Improve the quality of defending with or without bringing new people in and the rest will fall into place.
Even the holding midfielders protecting the back four needs improving.

Sturridge goals per min on the pitch is top class and I think selling him would be a huge mistake.

Dermot, Studge was good, 3 seasons ago so forgive me for disregarding your statistic which doesn't tell you how many games he's missed or games he hasn't scored in. The guy is finished and if we sold him now and got another forward with pace and work ethic that fits Klopp's style, I wouldn't be bothered.

He's been poor this season stats or not, and has let Klopp down this Jan so why should we be accommodating him? Cos he was once a good goalscorer? Sorry, I'm tired of us accommodating underperforming players. He has a decision to make in the summer and if we sold him, it would NOT be a mistake at all.
