William carvalho never really impressed me at the euro's and seemed very overated, i fail to see what he would bring that we don't already have with henderson, can and wijnaldum.

On the goalkeeping issue, just throwing this one out there, should we not be adopting the same approach barcelona did with ter stegen?

Buy an experienced goalkeeper to play for a few years, but is also willing to regularly drop to the bench to allow the younger goalkeeper to play? This would surely be beneficial for both the long and short term. And given begovic wants to leave chelsea, i can't think of anybody better to fill the role for us. It just doesn't make any sense to me that our backup goalkeeper is someone we are equally as terrified to play.

Carvallho is a beast of a player. He would bring stability into that midfield which gets exposed every now and then when someone runs at you on counter. He is a solid tackler, poaitonally aound and has a well built physique ideal for the PL. A fine passer of the ball. He is a mix of Matic and Kante and most importantly a finished article at 23.

With Ward returning from loan in summer, I can't see us buying a GK unless you are selling both Migs and Karius.

Not sure what you expected from him at the euros? He won the damn thing playing in midfield so he didn't do too bad there cos you could argue every player is overrated for not winning it! It's not a great place to judge players- if we did we would have sold handerson and lallana on the back of it. carvalho is not the finished article but very good at multiple things. I actually think him and Henderson could competed for the same spot or either one could be moved out to the left / right. We've seen what a pinnacle role Henderson plays and we just can't replace him when he's out. I have no idea if this is true but WC will add to our first team. If he comes it won't be to warm the bench. I think he'd be a very good buy.

He is much better than anyone we have defensively and can play from deep. He would allow Henderson to push forward alongside lallana if he was to come, which I very much doubt. He wouldn't be the ideal midfielder I would go for due to the way we play but he would certainly be a better one than what we have now. He improves the first team which is certainly what we need in the middle, it's no mystery that we need a better midfielder than wiji and can for the first team. I think the pair of them are decent players but they don't bring enough to the first team defensively or offensively and are far too inconsistent. I would say the hendo, wiji, lallana partnership works more often than not, but we will still concede bundles of goals with that open midfield. We sacrifice stability for fluidity. Can should be learning his trade better from the bench and used against certain opposition, it's clear he's not ready to start week in week out because he's missing fundamentals to his game. If he doesn't accept this and doesn't sign a new contract etc loan or sell him, he is in no position to do that. A good player but he wouldn't get into any other midfield of the top teams in the prem.

There is nothing overrated about William Carvalho, Anonymous. Nothing whatsoever. The guy is a great player, end of. You don`t have big clubs all over Europe tracking you for 3 years if you are a dud or overrated. I saw him at the Euros and I disagree with your assessment. I watched him closely as I had never seen him play and the guy is as strong as an ox YET as technically gifted in the DM role as Patrick Vieira.

He is physical, can pass long or short with either foot, tackle and cover a lot of ground with deceptive speed. Whether he won the Euros or not is irrelevant cos Baggio didn`t win the World Cup YET he was one of the stars of it and one of the best players I have ever seen in my lifetime. Will we get him? I doubt it. But to say he`s overrated, is way off the mark. As for the GK issue, let`s wait and see in the summer as all the top GK`s are already taken and they won`t be moving anywhere.

I agree AW. He's playing in a low quality league and when I've seen him playing in the cl/ el he's failed to impress me. Also he may be as strong as an ox but is incredibly slow and turns even slower. The issue with Lucas playing in that position is his lack of pace, so I fail to see how Carvalho would be an improvement in that position. He wouldn't suit our high pressing game either. If he comes in I'll support him, but I think he's not the right player for us.

As Swish said, the euros/ international football is a terrible marker for premier league suitability. However, I thought he was very effective in the Euros. I have to be honest it wasn't to the point where I craved him for LFC, but he performed his role at that level very well.
He seems great at reading the game so maybe that will make up for a 'perceived lack of pace', however, I've never seen a player skin him for pace. I think his 'pace' hasn't been properly tested in the league he's played in.

Depends which 'pace' you're referring to.
His speed will have been tested time and again from very quick players, should be easy enough to find out whether he suffers a lack of pace.
Whether he can keep up with the pace of the PL is a different matter.
