Forgive me if this is a stupid question Ed002, but as Matip wasnt actually selected in the final Cameroon squad for the AFCON how was there any question around his eligibility to play?

{Ed002's Note - Assuming the Secretary informed FIFA that the player had retired from International football and was not avaialable for selection there should be no problem.}

Would it his retirement status not be irrelelvant due to the fact that they didn't select him. Surely if they had been under the impression he wasnt retired and not injured they would have selected him in the finalsquad? Or am I just nit picking?
