Tight game, this is how I saw it from our end:

Mignolet - Good for the most part. Number of good saves, claimed most crosses well and seems to have improved his dsitribution. Still makes odd decisions at times but he played well tonight.

Milner - did well, was kept busy by Mhikitariyan all night but kept on going, scored a pen and gave us some badly needed leadership. Foul on him by Rooney was nasty as well - that is wasn't even a yellow was beyond belief.

Alexander-Arnold - let's face it the kid struggled a bit tonight. He looked flustered, was making poor decisions (due to inexperience and nerves most likely) and got caught in possession too. Having said that, despite Martial getting the better of him first half he did not have much of a look-in second half, the lad improved considerably. Overall he did alrite given it was his full Premier League debut, hopefully valuable experience he can take with him in future.

Lovren - was very good. Commanding in the air (in our box and theirs) and defended very well. Got a really harsh yellow card but, apart from that, did little wrong. I'm not sure who was at fault for the goal as my stream died - if anyone can enlighten me I'd be delighted.

Klavan - wasn't great to be honest. Looked shaky, got caught out a few times and was pretty poor when in possession. He defends pretty well but has lapses and he had a few tonight (which were not punished) .

Emre Can - a mixed game: some of the usual wayward, brainless passing but definitely more thrust in terms of getting up the pitch. Was also much stronger in the tackle and provided steel in the midfield which we needed, particularly second half.

Henderson - as he does so consistently well he just makes us tick. In defence he provides good cover, good leadership and a cool head - in attack he provides slick passes and tidy possession. What he does seems innocuous but it contributes a lot to our success, it was another good game for him.

Wijinaldum - if we ignore his glaring miss in injury time (which might be difficult) then you could say that he was average at best. Give the lad credit though he pops up into some dangeroius areas - he really has an eye for a run/ positioning - but his finishing is woeful. His decision making in terms of passing was also nothing special tonight. He wasn't terrible but he can/ should do much better.

Origi - caused problems with his pjhysicality and directness but seemed to be too far away from goal to utilize is most times. Issue for me is over his decision making and finishing. He did pretty well though and made their defenders lives uncomfortable.

Firmino - his energyu levels and closing down off the ball where, as usual, great. But his attacking prowess grew as soon as Coutinho was on the pitch. He should of done much better with the chance he had if truth be told and, on more than one occasion, I was annoyed with a daft flick he tried in a far from ideal area. With Coutinho back to fitness I hope we see the best of Firmino again.

Lallana - tough night for him. The wide positions just don't suit him and he struggled to make his prescence felt. He had moments and, as always, his class on the ball is unquestionable. I'd like to see him back in that midfield 3 again though, if we face overly physical opponents (like those tonight) then Emre Can is arguably the better option.

Coutinho - Lifted us the moment he was brought on. Excellent passing, good touch and technique, just a menace for defences to try and deal with. His fitness (and hopefully maintenance of his fitness) will play a big part in the second part of the season - when Mane is back we will start looking very tasty again I fancy.

Klopp - in general he got it right. A draw was probably not unfair on the balance of play but we could have won that game on another day - and United fans would probably be able to say something similar.

Ref - only bone of contention for me. There was a couple of pretty shocking tackles from United (Rooney's on Milner a favorite; Pogba's choke on Henderson) which were just not fairly punished. Rooney's was a potential red but at least a yellow but got nothing. Pogba should have got a yellow for his handball, a yellow for whatever that was on Henderson and a couple of other incidences. I felt like United were enabled to play a rough, aggressive style by e ref who simply failed to punish their players for their rough, over zealous play. A ref who yellow carded Lovren for a perfectly good tackle that had no malice what-so-ever. Having said that the result was certainly not influenced by the ref - on balance it was fair and, given both teams form, I'd of taken a draw before the game. We move on to the next challenge.

Nice Seano, but I don't agree with the Can comments.

He's a dangerous player and we need someone else there.

Still, he's got a future, but for me, at the moment, it's on the bench.

Nice point for us there, and proof that we can still match the teams at the top.

Onward again after today me thinks

Was it me or the minute Coutihno stepped on the pitch you could see the return of a great bromance w/ firmino? Seriously. you see how we tick much betters with couts and Firmino center. Yes. HendoS return was equally important.

Decent analysis. The team was never set up to score goals. The midfielders in between Can and Wiji has 4 goals in the league. The front three tried their best but they hardly got any support from midfield. Lallana desperately need to be dropped into the middle. He needs actions infront if him not himself. We miss Coutinho. The lad is supreme quality.
United had some good chances and on another day Micky would have scored 2 and Pogba 1.
A point is exactly what we set up for tonight.

@Davey - In games that require more physicality i'd play Can over Wiji is what I meant to say, Lallana should be starting as 1 of the midfield 3 every game.

2 things in that mate:

Firstly, while I don't believe the ref had any form of bias, they should have been playing over half the match with 10 men and Pogba didn't even get a yellow. That is a massive influence on the game and it was only a ridiculously good save by Mingolet that stopped it being even more of an influence, because they very nearly scored as a direct result of the headlock being punished.

Secondly, Lovren did not have a good game. He did some good stuff but he was poorly positioned several times without any good reason, and twice played poor back passes that they very nearly scored from (and once should have) . Every time Lovren had time to think today it went poorly and that isn't good enough.

Don`t blame Klopp at all for setting up the midfield to be more work-man-like. Utd play a physical game in midfield and we needed all our physical players on the pitch to match them. we were missing players and in a sticky patch so you have to make sure you don`t concede first (which we did not) and then go from there.

Also, we went there first, not to conceded but hit them on the break whenever we press hem and we did press them well in critical moments hence, the chances we created. The strikers already knew they wouldn`t have a lot f chances and would be needed to work hard especially, out of possession especially on the flanks.

We needed a solid team performance to get a result and we got that even tho, a win would have been more welcome. Had we won, no one would have cared how we set up. Take the point and we move on.

The ref was fine, we nullified unt but just couldn't quite hold them out, decent point and move onto Swansea. Only 7 away games to go.

Hamilton

What is this physical football you are talking? Lallana is a foot longer than Herrera while Carrick is slower than a tortoise. If you press well you don't need to be a wrestler on the pitch. The only way United would have had any authority on the game was going direct long balls which got them the goal. Can and Wijnaldum overkills the midfield and you could bench one for a different kind of a player.
You clearly don't understand the game. We scored 30 odd goals without being PHYSICAL.

If you see wiji and can in midfield together you can basically guarantee we won't create much. Wiji is physically very good and decent movement but on the ball seems to play it overly safe and as a result he passes it backwards from promising positions way too often. Can just loses the ball too often with wayward passes. Great to see Hendo back and combative as usual. Love seeing him get stuck in to Pogba.

The ref was not "fine". Herrera had more than 2 yellow card offences, Ibra led with his elbows on every header, Rooney had studs up against Milner and Pogba should have gone.
If the FA don't act retrospectively it is nothing short of cheating.

Wiji (If that's what we're now calling him? ) Has been much much better this season than the majority on here give him credit for.

He is simple in his play which is fine when you have four players ahead of you being creative.

His understanding with Hendo and Lallana has grown in that Can is very much the back up player to those three.

If those three play together then I'd back us to win most games

That rich coming from you, Harry? Have you read your own posts? Utter nonsense. Klopp played both Wiji and Can vs City in a bid to outwork and press them in midfield n he did the same today especially with Can who stifled Pogba into having a poor game duo his ability to match up with Pogba`s size and athleticism. Mentioning Carrick and Herrera is pointless as I never referred to them in my post so learn to rea next time. In both games, we had the upper hand physically which allowed the press to be so effectively executed y Lallana ad Firmino.
