With Livepool playing Sunderland today can I take the opportunity to ask the eds their opinion on Moyes? Had a good spell with Everton then went to a dying Utd to Sunderland via Spain. Just a poor manager who luckily had a fair spell at Everton or a good manager that's made some poor career choices? Appreciate your opinion eds.

{Ed002's Note - He was not given sufficient time at Manchester United. He is a decent manager but not an outstanding one.}

I agree re Utd. Fergie left them with a massive rebuilding job on their hands and he was given weeks to patch it. I know a man needs to work but its the jobs in Spain and Sunderland that seem strange choices to me. Similar to Neville taking the job at Valencia, all posts look like a hiding to nothing.

I think he is dreadful personally. He slowly takes teams backwards. He joined Everton when they were European hopefuls and left them in mid table. Just because it took him a decade to do it doesn't mean it counts as stability.

Now he has taken charge of a Sunderland team who had just got themselves together under Fat Scam (who himself is not a great manager), and sent them straight back to being spineless again. When you have a front 3 of Watmore, Defoe and Borini (ok not world class but still pose a threat) why on earth would you sit back and try and soak up pressure with Van Aanholt, Djiloboji and O'Shea.?

Bournemouth are proof that lesser sides can attack and still survive the drop, if your best players are your offensive ones. You have to play to your squads strengths and Moyes has no idea how to do that. He plays to his favourites and the players who are run of the mill professionals. He has no ambition. How that useless kid Januzaj is still getting anywhere near a premier league side, I don't know.

Even at Everton he persevered with average Joes like Howard, Jagielka, Pienaar, Gibson and Fellaini. He is too scared to make changes so he just sticks with his Mr. Reliable's even if they are reliably average! Not to mention his fascination with Man United rejects. I really don't get that one. Even before his stint at old Trafford he was constantly picking up their cast offs; Howard, Gibson, Saha etc.

He's not even Championship quality. I like Sunderland. But they have a very bad individual making their managerial appointments. Di Canio, Keane, O'Neil, Fat Scam and now Moyes? Who is next? Ian Dowie? Neil Lennon? Or somebody even more average?

{Ed001's Note - Everton were not European hopefuls when Moyes took over, they were fighting relegation and he turned them into European hopefuls. His problem is that he could not take them any further. He is a mid-level manager and nothing more.}

My bad on that one Ed. Thought he took over mid 2000's. Either way though, as you say, he hits a ceiling because he simply isn't good enough.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, just trying to be fair to the guy, he has enough faults to not need to add any!}

Fair play Ed. I only started following football properly in 2005. So since I've been watching I only saw Everton going backwards. The first year I was a viewer I think they were 4th, and then over the last 12 years I've watched on as Spurs, Man City, Southampton, Newcastle, Villa, and various other clubs finished above them under Moyes! So in my era, I've only seen him taking Everton backwards. Quick search though and I can see he did initially take them forward.
