Agreed, for me he doesn't run forward with the ball enough, like Lallana does beating players, in a scrappy game, he keeps it neat which helps create more space and settle things down. He seems to have a good footballing brain which undoutedly comes from growing up in the Netherlands.

His strength holding off players whilst in possession has been his biggest asset.

Better than Allen but lacks goals exactly why he wasn't bought in the first place. That Irony.

I my opinion he is doing more of a job for the team/ Klopp and less of what fans would have expected from him when he arrived. I think he is a little stiffled in the role he is asked to do but as Ed001 says, as long as we are doing well then there is no issue.

It's early days for him. He will score plenty when he settles in. Half a season so far.

Thanks ed great response, really good insight. Spoke to so many fans that are fed up with him already, lots of people watch with such narrow minds and don't pick up on the little things. I've no doubt in his ability and what he's doing, I just like seeing players do that little bit more than they need to, I'm sure like you said he just needs a boost in confidence and hopefully we can see his true ability.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate. I just think it will be a season or two before we really see the best of him.}

He's one of those players that goes right under the radar because the team is playing well and accumulated more points than we would have expected so no one mentions him. If the team where dropping points and playing inconsistently I feel he would come under more scrutiny partly due to his price tag, because he hasn't performed like a £25m player. He hasn't been brilliant yet he hasn't been terrible, he's sort of coasting which is ok when we're winning. Moving forward into the summer it will be interesting to see whether we improve the midfield or stick with hendo, lallana wijnaldum/ can as our midfield trio.

Bit harsh to say he's coasting. It's not like the teams having to carry him. He's a good solid player and for £25 mil you don't get much more than that nowadays.
Yes the only thing missing is goals, but can't be easy for him with 3/ 4 attacking flare players ahead of him all looking to take up those attacking positions. If he just used their wave to get a little closer to the goal he'd have a few more goals and we'd all be saying what a good buy he is.

Mag

You are clearly missing a very important point and that is the right player. If you want a CM, go buy a CM and not another type of player to train him for another position which he has hardly ever played.

{Ed001's Note - that is not always true. Managers often buy players to use them in different positions, because they see something in the way they play that should suit another postion. Players often have their positions altered during their career.}

May be. Personally I would have bought a top class CM which is what we wanted in the first place and we had the money as well. I am not a big fan of this experiment.

{Ed001's Note - there were none available and interested, which is why we had to take a gamble when Wijnaldum was offered to us.}

I didn't knew that Ed. I would have taken Kovacic from Madrid.

{Ed001's Note - enough about your sexual fantasies please Harry! There are children here....

He was not interested in joining us. Probably feared for his life due to your stalking! Seriously though, it is all very well choosing players that could do the job, but they have to want to join and be within our price range.}
