Fgs, such an avoidable and unecessary distraction.

How could people be so careless. Jeeeezzz.

We don't know all the details but ANYONE who drives after drinking deserves little sympathy. Ask some one who has lost a loved one because of a person who has driven after drinking.

The worst part is, He will have to appear in front of the court on 31st Jan which I guess fall on our match with Chelsea.

My wife just asked me, and I couldn't give her a good answer: What happens to professional athletes who are caught drinking and driving?

Obviously, for most people, several hours of community service and loss of a driver's license, plus perhaps a fine, could be a significant impact. For someone in Firmino's situation, those seem less of a concern.

Should there have been an accident / injury / worse, I'm sure it'd be more severe, but is there any real ramification for him having done this? Or, by extension, if he were to do it again?

Other than hiring a full-time chauffeur, of course.

Utterly stupid behaviour by a highly paid professional athelete. I like him massively as a player, and he seems a nice guy, but for one of our players to get caught like that is both morally and practically ridiculous. It's just gives Sly sports something to crow about.

Whilst i don't condone drink-driving in fact i have zero tolerance towards it. In England can you not just have your Solicitor in the court on your behalf. Then he won't miss the Chelsea game. In the Republic of Ireland where i live you have to be present.

Brainless move. At first I wondered if it was after the club Xmas party but it would appear not. Begs the question why was he out on the p*ss on Xmas eve with a game coming up - what a knob bringing more rubbish publicity to the club :- (

He's human, he's made a very serious mistake.
He'll be punished, hopefully others will take note and not be so stupidly selfish as Firmino and get a cab or a chauffeur.
Agree with canadian - no sympathy for him, hope he gets a long driving ban and is fined the max by the club with the money going to an appropriate charity.
He won't miss the Chelsea match as above.

Klopp won't be impressed but he won't drop him, I'm certain of that.

It was a stupid and very dangerous decision from Robbie. But from there to dropping him? Now that`s a stretch.

We shouldn't really be jumping to conclusions on this. it might turn out that was a smidgen over the limit or he may have been blind drunk! But either way I think we can all agree it'd be preferrable if someone else was driving.!

Johnny you don't know he was on the piss because we don't know the details. He could've been out with his family and had one drink thinking he'd be under the limit but wasn't. Then again he could've been on the lash and been legless. Until we know the details it's very difficult say how stupid he's been.

There's no excuse, whatever the circumstances.

Of course Ron but saying he's been out on the piss is just plain wrong as we don't know the circumstances. He has broken the law whatever the circumstances, I was merely saying that we don't know what they were so casting aspersions based on guess work is not the way to go here. He will be punished and rightly so but that shouldn't impact on his work.

Everybody just chill out and stop projecting and drawing conclusions without actually knowing the facts. It was not smart but who knows if the citation was given by an overzealous cop (we have a whole lot of those down here in the States) or whatever. let`s just wait till all the details are made public.

16.) 27 Dec 2016

Whatever the circumstances are it is ridiculous for an athlete to be caught drink driving. They have enough money for a taxi/ uber/ limo/ whatever so I really don't see how or why he is drink driving. I'm also not really happy to hear he's drinking alcohol - I see it as unprofessional and something that does nothing but harm to an athlete.

17.) 27 Dec 2016
27 Dec 2016 08:26:49
I really can't see why an athlete can't enjoy a brew seano. (Although I CAN see the obvious benefits as to why they shouldnt. ) but we forget easily that they are humans too and were so before they became professional footballers. Like every walk of life you'll have your Stevie G's that stay at one club (mostly! ) And then you'll have your michael owens.
For me this story has more detail to come which will throufh the appropriate processes. All the innuendo and gossip going on on here is ironically as bad as some of the trash served up to us in the daily rags we so disdain.

Hamilton, in the U. K. you don't get arrested for drink driving unless you have given a positive sample - breath or blood.
