Talking purely hypothetically; based purely on ability and disregarding Sakho's apparent attitude issues and any other offer field issues, do you think Sakho and Matip would make a more solid CB partnership than Lovren and Matip?

I'd lean towards yes. Sakho's a bit rash on the pitch sometimes and makes errors (particularly with his headers), but when he's in top form he's quite a bit better than Lovren in top form. And Lovren does make mistakes too.

But given Sakho does have off-field issues and is going to leave the discussion is kind of moot.

Matip and Sakho are the most talented are the most talented CBs we have as individual.

He is a better defender than lovren by some miles but that's it. Southampton robbed us on lovren. He is bang average. Not sure y people cannot see it.

I prefer Gomez and Matip. Both are very cool in possession.

Gee how quickly things change. Just a few weeks ago there were lots of comments about how Lovren was performing under Klopp, very few negative ones.

I don't ever want to see Sakho on for us again due to his poor attitude. Having said that yes I believe him and Matip would've been a decent partnership. But now I'd rather see young Gomez given his chance.

I don't think it's necessarily negative mate, no one who watches us can reasonably say that he's a bad player and I agree that we need stability but I don't think it's mutually exclusive to incrementally pursue options that improve the team. In the long term it makes sense to look for a higher calibre of player, as Ed002 states, players are transitional employees of the club and are supposed to be professionals, that's the reality.

Furthermore I don't think anyone is suggesting we sell/ replace him in January by the way. We can be more than happy with not only the displays, but the results, and every member of the team is contributing to that. Why so glum?

No, I don't think Sakho would be better than Lovren. I think he is a bit overated on here.

I think I can see a pattern with Matip and Lovren. Matip is the 'player' and Lovren is the guy to keep it simple. I think having both Sakho and Matip would result in having 2 'players' at the back - both trying to be inventive with the football, either in their passing or moving forward with the ball.

I think it's all about moving the football as quickly as possible and whereas Sahko has a better, more incisive passing range than Lovren, he also likes to dwell on the ball and over-elaborate with it. I think this would slow down the tempo of our play.

If you look at us this season, Hendo is a lot closer to the centrebacks, so the pass being played from defense to midfield is a much shorter, simpler pass, it's about recycling and continually moving the ball at speed. Our incisiveness is further up the field in the next phase. However, there's no doubt that Sakho's vertical passing would be advantageous, as he can find the front 5 quickly (although having Milner at left back allows this anyway) . I just think for this overall system, Lovren works better.

Why even bother with this, he obviously has a terrible attitude even Ed001 has said he had attitude problems. Let it go and hopefully we can reclaim most of the money for him and let's concentrate on the great players we have who don't cause problems.
