As far as I am concerned Liverpool do not have a bogey team and I do not fear Benteke, Joel Matip has more than enough to take care of him. We are Liverpool FC and we should fear nobody, there is no team on the planet we can't beat, whether it be Barcelona or Crystal Palace. Under Klopp the fear factor that we had lost under Rodgers is back as evidenced by United parking the bus against us and I see no reason why we should have any doubt in our team, as Klopp said, believers not doubters.

Palace wouldn't park the bus from the word go. There is still weakness in our team as a whole. Luckily Padrew sin got a clue how to exploit like Jose. With the players at his disposal Palace should be sitting a lot higher in the table. They will score. We need to outscore them.

How did Jose "exploit our weaknesses"? They defended for their lives for over half the match. 😄.

They pressed us brilliantly in the first half making us pass the ball sideways and backwards whole first half. We had no shots on goal all first 45mts.
Came out and defended deep in the second half securing a point at Anfield

When teams press us we look vulnerable.

I think Harry has a point re: the pressing against us.

Swansea did it effectively and so did Utd - the key thing is though, they cannot seem to do it for 90 mins. The 2nd half we seem to take over games, so providing we're smart and sensible in possession and movement, teams can press us all they like, they won't be able to keep it up for 90 mins.

Harry, Utd did absolutely nothing and took advantage of nothing. Why? They didn`t create any chance worth writing home about and had one corner, a lame shot on target and that was it. If by taking advantage of our weakness, you mean that they parked the bus for 90 mins and stopped us from playing (a tactic Fergie would never have done) then I guess that is your opinion. With all their stone age football, we still created the better chances and had Firmino not took a bad touch, we would have won the game. CP don`t press high as that is not who they are. They are a counter attacking team with pace on the flanks. If they press us, they will pay for it, IMO.

NOt sure what exactly are you saying mate. Pressing doesn't mean having having infinite amount of shots on goal. That's crap. You could press and opposition to dismantle their style of play. When you press a player the player inturns pass it to backwards or sideways in order to keep possession.

UTD had no intention to create anything, All they wanted to make surendran Liverpool doesn't dominate the ball and stop their free flowing pass and movement which hey did pressing our coutinho and Henderson.

Where is it written pressing should result in 15 shots on target?

You need to shed this idea on pressing means win the ball back and go at the opposition.

Mark lallana or coutinho and you could see Hendo passing it back to Lovren or Matip.

"Pressing doesn`t mean having infinite amounts of shots on goal". Are you sure? "You need to shed the idea that pressing means winning the ball back and going immediately at the opposition". Harry, that is EXACTLY what Gegen Pressing is under Klopp. This is a system that is founded on the notion that a team is more vulnerable as soon as it loses possession. Therefore, when LFC lose the ball, the press is automatically triggered as the opposition has no time to get it`s shape back when they are immediately pressed. If the pressing team can`t get the ball, then they retreat into a compact shape and then lay "pressing traps" or pressing zones where the opposition can be pressed into losing possession again. We do this all the time during games. Also, "Where is it written that pressing should result in 15 shots on target? " That is THE very idea behind Klopp`s gegen pressing system. You know who said that? Klopp did, on the MNF set with Carra a couple of weeks ago (youtube it if you like) . He said that winning the ball back and attacking straight out of that, is the best way to create overloads and attack a team instead of recycling the ball and starting a build up afresh with a playmaker at the helm (his words) like City do under Pep. So when we press and win the ball, we are looking to create a chance and/ or score ASAP as the opposition is not set yet. We did that vs the Baggies, Hull, Spurs, Swansea, in fact we have don't this to everybody. Why do you think we lead the PL in possession, chances created, shots on target and goals since Klopp took over?

You aren't getting the point.
What happens when a player approaches you? You either try to outmuscle the player, Dribble past him, pass to the next person or Pass it back to keep the ball

UTD did exactly this when we had the ball. Rather than sitting deep they came to us, Our GK and they had man marking our CB's and Midfielder. Resultant Karius kicked the ball long into the middle and UTD won the first and second ball.

During the first 20mts, UTD midfield competed 40 passes between Herrera, Fellaini and Poaba.

When Henderson has the ball and he see a UTD player near to every lverpool player, He decides to pass it side or back to keep the ball.

This is way to stop the opposition's natural flow of the game which they did and had 50% possession in the first half at Anfield.

They were tired and decided to see out the game sitting deep in the second half.

This is one of the way to counter press an opposition.

Barcelona win the ball instantly from an opposition with pressing high and swiftly convert to their own attack.

Pressing could also be used to counter opposition's quick moving style.

Perfect.
Pressing doesn't mean win the ball back and charge at the opposition. It could also mean a marker at every outlet for the next pass resulting passing it safe on each side.

Harry, you're right, pressing doesn't necessarily mean win the ball back and charge at the opposition, trying to score. but why wouldn't you do that if you're going to "press"? What exactly is the point in pressing to negate a teams tactics, and then not trying to take advantage of it yourself? I think the people saying "United did nothing" are saying it because no premiership team should start a game thinking "how do we not lose? ", it should be "how do we win? ". unless you need a point to win the league.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United went to not concede and to try and score. Klopp new that they would but has nothing whatsoever to counter that in his arsenal. This has been done to death.}

Rugby

Decent question I asked myself and couple of people in the game. UTD did not do a direct pressing. They marked out our players and the outlet of pass stopped resulting us keeping the ball with in our own half. Hence Jose's tactics of keeping us quite succeeded.

They could have set up their usual tactics of sitting deep from the kick off to the end which had its own consequences as the more you drop deeper the more chances to concede.

Jose decided to come after us. The front three marked out Hendo and two CB's while Herrera marked out Coutinho. Can had no clue what to do in such situation. Hendo was left isolated at the babk only passing back to Matip.

Harry, yes it does. That is how Gegen pressing works as I explained to you in the past but for some funny reason, you seem to ignore that in my last post. I also mentioned that there are various pressing systems that teams use just like Utd used by plugging the passing lanes, but you also seem to ignore that. As Rugby said and I maintain, playing stoneage football is low hanging fruit and if trying to score means having one lame shot at goal for the whole game then they're not trying hard enough. Now, we may not have been at our best as Klopp himself said but I fail to see why you are giving Mou credit for playing Stone Age football, the very type he criticizes others for playing when he can't beat them. What would you have said had they won? The game's gone now and they are further behind us than when we played them. We live, we learn, we move on.
