All this talk about the goal conceded, but not one word or positive comment regarding Milners performance yesterday. A lot of people have been putting him down since he joined the club but the guy didn't put a foot wrong yesterday and hopefully that continues, as for the goal,
I 100% agree with with Ed001 it was Ming's cock up but in fairness to Ming's he wasn't too bad either, my only personal disappointment was sturridge and his finishing he seems a half yard still off the pace of the game he's passing and movement was good but still lacking, not sure what's wrong with him to be honest. Anyway good performance yesterday overall just wish sturridge would pick it up another gear and Lallana to take one less touch on the ball as he was caught a few times yesterday and lost possession in good areas .

More work to be done but a good result and hopefully these results keep coming over the season home and away.

YNWA.

There where a few comments about milners good performance on here yesterday.
I thought Sturidge had a great game myself, could/ should have got a goal yeah but they where good saves as well, I just thought his movement and passing allowed Firmino and Mane to be as effective as they where resulting in the win.

I don't necessarily agree it was Mingolet's fault. If your centre back is sitting that far back, nearly square with the goal posts then you must be expecting the ball and it must be something they have been told to do, to play it out from the back. It is also something that opposing teams will catch onto easily enough and press high to stop the players doing it. What didn't help Lucas is the 8 yards that Mahrez encroached into the box and putting Lucas under more pressure than he should have been. If a player was 8 yards offside and scored we would be up in arms, Leicesters goal was no different imo.

Fully agree with you Rover. There was a later goal kick and again the two defenders were in exactly the same position either side of the goal almost on the goal line. Mignolet was obviously doing what his trainers have told him to do so i can't blame him for the goal. Mahrez's encroachment and Lucas's unfortunate control were the reason they scored.

{Ed001's Note - go and watch it again, the defenders split on every goal kick before that, then, as Leicester were setting up to press them, Migs waited until they ran forward. What is with everyone defending him? Yes Lucas messed up, but the initial error was Mignolet's.}

Mignolet's pass was incredibly weak. By the time it got out of the box for Lucas to touch it, Okazaki was charging him down. Lucas has just tried to drag it to the left to go past him but the ball has hit his toe and gone the wrong way.

Both Mignolet and Lucas are as much at fault. Mignolet should not have played such a shocking pass, but Lucas should have reacted to it and just booted it as far as he could and then given Mignolet an ear full. I would also say that when Mignolet saw Lucas was in trouble he should have reacted better to Lucas prodding the ball back in his direction. But he looked shocked it had happened. I mean honestly, how bad do you have to be at reading a situation to not even anticipate Lucas's tackle coming back into the box?

At the end of the day, we are discussing one of only two bad moments in the game (the other being Mignolet getting caught in no mans land for Huth to hit the bar) . Aside from that, the whole team was brilliant. Mignolet kind of made up for his part in their goal when he stopped Vardy at point blank range WITH HIS FEET! I almost passed out at that point.

The movement of Sturridge, Mane and Firmino was just incredible though. I actually don't see how Coutinho gets back in to that front 3 for the next game. Perhaps he drops into midfield, but even Lallana and Wijnaldum had great games yesterday.

I think yesterday was the day that Klopps new system came together. We did not just beat cannon fodder. We beat the current Champions. In fact we embarrassed them. It cannot be overstated how impressive it is to be the first team to thrash Leicester in nearly a year.

it was commented on during the half time discussion on TV that the Leicester goal shouldn't have stood because of the Law 16 rule regarding encroachment into the box (the ball only being in play when it leaves the box) - in reality, are these interpretations ever picked up by the officials?

Just watched it again. Mahrez was 5 yards outside the box and only moved when Migs kicked it to Lucas. Ample time for Leiva to control and dispose it. I appreciate its getting petty to pick apart this incident but I still don't see it being Migs fault. Its well documented that you don't rate him Ed and plenty of posters blame him for all the teams' woes but i think he is just an easy target these days and there's nothing in the replay that convinces me he did anything wrong. Either way probably time to move on.

{Ed001's Note - I am not digging at Migs, it is not about rating him, it was a mistake, no matter where Mahrez was, the simple fact was no one else was expecting the quick pass out. It doesn't matter about anything else, we had control and it was time to take it easy, like he had at every other goal kick. If you don't see an error by the keeper then it is a waste of time talking to you, as it was an error by him.}

Migs intial pass was poor but for anyone to think it was anyone's fault but Lucas is silly. Rule number one as a defender, you don't pass back to the goalie if an opposing player is in or near the box. Lucas should have just put the ball out with no outlet pass available. Then set up for defense. The player himself acknowledged the mistake and actually was able to make light of the situation by pointing out it was his first assist in years.

Not slighting Lucas, because I thought he played well, but it was the type of mistake that continues to haunt Liverpool and will keep them from being serious title contenders until they stop allowing teams back in the game with costly errors.

{Ed001's Note - hmmm the fault was both of theirs as they both got it wrong. To say otherwise is ridiculous. Rule number one as a keeper is to not play your defenders into trouble on the edge of the box. The reason we make these errors is because we have too many players lacking the intelligence needed to see out a game. Not just Migs, though in this case it was him who rushed a goal kick towards the end of the first half when we were dominating. An intelligent player would have known there was no rush and the best thing to do was take your time, as he had done all the previous times he had the ball. To absolve him of blame is ludicrous. He made a major error.

Lucas then made a couple of errors to make things worse, errors that were even worse, but this is compounding the initial error rather than being the only error. You have to fix problems at source if you want to win things. First thing is you need to take your time if you want to control a game while on top. We keep rushing simple things, when there is no rush. I know Migs is trying his best to impress with Karius there, but he is not helping his cause by making basic errors, such as not taking time when he should, playing a weak pass to a player on the edge of the box and flapping at crosses.

Mignolet needs to stop and think. Take a deep breath and look at what happened and improve on it. Oh and learn to bloody catch while he is about it. First off though, he could save us a lot of problems by being calmer and not rushing when we are on top and dominating.}

100% agree on your assement of Migs. I guess my point was knowing how poor Migs is on the ball, Lucas should have just played the safe ball and kicked it out. It's that type of decision making that allows teams to get back in the game when we have been in dominant form. As a team we play that risky ball too often and need to be smarter in our own end. The play had the double effect of allowing the back in the gain and hurting our confidence which on its best day is pretty fragile.

Agree with your assessment as well, Ed. A goalie should be a symbol of calm and composure but that can only happen if he has supreme confidence in his own ability. Mingo has no confidence in his ability which is why he looks and plays scared. He's a complete bag of nerves and that trickles down to the rest of the team.
